Must have books to get me through the R.N program

Published

What were some of the books that you HAD to have during your R.N program ? I have my tabers and davis drug guide which are mandatory but would love to have some extra books to fall back on if the textbooks aren't sinking in. Thanks !

DEFINATELY consider the Straight A's book series!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used the Straight A's in Pediatric Nursing and the Straight A's in Maternal/ Neonatal Nursing. Those books are AMAZING! It cuts out all of the 'fluff' from the textbooks and gets to the point. They also have practice questions. My grades increased dramatically! They have Straight A's in Pathophysiology, Psych, and Med-Surg (not sure if there are others)

My favorite GO TO books, Used them every year!

TABERS MEDICAL DICTIONARY

DAVIS DRUG GUIDE

SAUNDERS NCLEX REVIEW BOOK (good to familiarize yourself with nclex review questions as this will more than likely be how you are tested in your program)

POTTER AND PERRY'S FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING (a valuable resource, best funds book on the market)

RN NOTES (is a little flip book which is great for familiarizing yourself with all sorts of need to know information)

First of all, great thread, read my mind. I am in the same boat.

I was thinking about getting the Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment book? I know it's a NCLEX review book, and I have heard good things about it in that respect. I was thinking it could help with some of the exams during nursing school as well.

I really love the Made Incredibly Easy Series. I use the Med-Surg & Pathophysiology ones all the time for my Med-surg classes. An app I really like for my iphone is LabGear. It gives the normal ranges for lab values, explains them, and lists the common conditions that make them high or low. Good Luck!
