Anyone been to it??

I understand there is a new anatomy related area that is pretty impressive??

Being new to the nursing world, I'm kinda wondering if a trip down would be beneficial??.........Sounds as though it would be interesting, anyway.

My Mom wanted to be a nurse when she was younger, so I'm thinking this may be a cool idea for Mom and me to spend a day together, while getting some useful anatomy onfo at the same time.

Any thoughts/experiences on the museum, etc. would be appreciated!!

My husband went to Chicago yesterday with his JROTC kids and they had a great time. (We live near Peoria). I personally always think the Museum of Science and Industry is the coolest museum around. Any amount of time spent there will be fun - have a great time. I have heard of the anatomy exhibit but only in general terms. If you call their phone - I think they have a more detailed recording of what they have currently.

Cool.

Thanks for the heads up - I never thought of calling........I guess I just kinda figured things didn't change that often.

Anyway, I'm hoping I can learn a few things, and have a cool trip with Ma.

...........I am SO making her let me buy lunch this time!! - Mom and Grandma both, they're sneaky!! (that reminds me - I've gotta swing through NC and mess with Gram!! :) )

Anyway, any other thoughts, ideas are more than welcome........maybe a nice place to stop for lunch while we're there??......Something we just shouldn't miss??

Thanks y'all!!

The exhibit is awesome - I believe it opened in early spring or maybe even before. We got extra credit in my Anatomy class for going to it. Check it out at http://www.msichicago.org. definitely worth the price esp if you are "into" this kinda stuff :)

I lived there for 4 years when I was 7 til 11 years old and still remember the Museum. Back then they had a human heart model that you could walk through, a picture phone, the inside of a 747, baby chick incubator. At Christmas time they had trees decorated from all different countries. I think back then there was no admission price either. I would love to get back there sometime and bring my kids.

GO SEE IT!!!! My boyfriend and I went and they have absolutely EVERYTHING you can think of and even things you haven't. It's called "Body Worlds" and is only here until Labor Day weekend, last I heard (call to check, though because it may have beeen changed). So good that I'm actually planning on going again. The artist was able to find poses and positions that are educational and artistic. I think it would be great for a child old enough to ask questions about what things are. They even have diseased organs (cirrhotic liver, left side cardiac hyertrophy, pancreatitis, ovarian cysts, tumor filled lungs....) AND they even have a pregnant woman with her 8-month old baby still in utero (my personal favorite). GO SEE IT!!! It's worth every penny.

Just talking about it makes me want to go back this weekend now! :)

The Body Worlds thing is amazing!!!!!!!!! Don't miss it. We couldn't walk away from it. It travels so even if you don't live in Illinois check to see if it's coming to your city. And Batmik, they still have all that stuff believe it or not.

I was a little disappointed by the Bodyworlds exhibit. Some of the dissected bodies were so highly "stylized" that they looked more like art exhibits than anatomical teaching displays. I found the smaller sections in the display cabinets to be far more instructional and interesting, such as the hip and knee prostheses, sections of brain tumors, diseased arteries, etc.

I still think it is worth going, just be aware that it is not all science!

Yes it was creepy but I always go there first.

My son was able to get to bodyworlds exhibit this summer. He thought it was great. I think some of the whole body pieces are supposed to be more artistic. To show what a great and graceful machine the human body is. I would love to get up there, but somehow dont think i will be able to darn it.

Thank You for the input, everybody.

I hope I'll be able to get down there.

:)

Several people I know have gone to this and said it's awesome! We're working on getting a "field trip" approved where I work so a bunch of us can go and check it out. If you go to the actual Body Worlds website, it gives you all the details on how they preserve the bodies and stuff. It's pretty awesome!
