Hi everyone!
I'm a pre-nursing student in Charleston, SC hoping to apply for Medical University of South Carolina's Accelerated BSN program for the spring of 2017.
I'm currently completing the pre-requisites at College of Charleston, which doesn't have it's own nursing program.
I'm going to be applying with around 75 hours including the 60 hours of pre-reqs, and expect to have a GPA of about 3.8.
I'm 19, and I'm planning to apply this summer at the end of my sophomore year, but I'm worried about my chances without a previous degree and some experience working in healthcare. I'll have a good number of hospital volunteer hours, but that's it.
Is there anyone who's currently in the program right now, or has a applied before? What do you think my chances of getting in with my expected GPA and just the pre-reqs are?
Thanks!
I am currently a College of Charleston student living in the Old Village area of Mt. P, and I commute downtown by bus. I'm not sure what I'll do housing wise yet, I like where I am but I'm not sure how taking the bus would work with the program's schedule. So as soon as I get some news, I'll work on figuring that out!
I don't know much about places in West Ashley, but it's close by so that's definitely good.
Hey guys, I'm new to the thread but I've been keeping up with it for a while now. I applied for Spring 2014 and was accepted as an alternate. I didn't find out that I was accepted until late December. At the time, I had a 3.6 cGPA and a 3.0 science GPA. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend. I am reapplying for Spring 2017. I now have a 3.7 cGPA, still a 3.0 science GPA , and an EMT-B certification. Hopefully I get a call sooner than late December this time.
When they mail the letters, you can tell before you even open it whether or not you were accepted. If it's a small, regular envelope, you either didn't get accepted or were selected as an alternate. If you receive a large, white Manila envelope, you got in!
Would any of you guys be interested in starting or joining a Facebook page for the class?
Not until December?! That must have been so nerve wrecking!
I'm sorry it didn't work out then, hopefully this will be the year for you! And congratulations on getting your EMT certification since then.
Thanks for the information about the letters they'll send out, I've heard that before but it helps to have it confirmed by someone who's been through the process.
Starting a Facebook group would be great! Maybe we should wait until a few people have heard some good news
Me too! Thanks, I think you have a good shot at getting accepted as well. Your gpa is higher than mine. Unfortunately, I don't have the guy thing going for me. I'm a girl. I realize that my shortened name (supposed to read as Chris(ten)) and the question mark default profile pic is confusing. I should probably change that pic.
I looked through some old Facebook messages for one message in particular that I thought everyone would find pretty helpful, and I found it! I'm sure some of it has changed, but at least it gives us a good idea of what to expect, should we be accepted.
"Hey. The first thing you're going to need is your net ID and to set up a password. The school have to let you know what your ID and then in that same email you will receive a link to set up your password.
Like everyone else said, start working on your immunizations. Contact MUSC Student health for what you need. They can tell you where to find it online or email you.
You also need to have a drug test done. That happens at MUSC's employee health office.
If your BLS healthcare professional certified then you're all set on that front. If not, take a look at our class Facebook page for the days/times that you can get certified.
The undergraduate booklist is online. Just Google MUSC BSN book list and it will pop up. Contact Leo and ask for him to share the link to Google drive with you. He has downloaded all the books onto Google Drive. If you want hardcopies of the book, then check the Facebook page for the Google doc that has other students used books. Otherwise, the bookstore on campus will have what you need. You'll also need a skills lab kit for $200 from the bookstore. There is a post on the Facebook page from Maryn that will tell you what Leo has shared and what is still needed.
Since you've been recently excepted I'm not sure if you have access to MUSC Web advisor. If you do, there are modules listed on Moodle that you need to do. They are an orientation and promise of nursing modules. There's also the CATTS modules that you have to do. Just Google CATTS and MUSC and put in your net ID and password and do what's listed. There is also SC Passport (Carelearning) modules that are $10 each (18 of them).
You'll need to print and upload forms onto E value. Most of the students have just googled e*value and then printed and uploaded the forms back onto the website. There are forms for the VA Hospital that need to be filled out as well even if you're not assigned to do clinicals there. Those will be sent in an email to you.
Your scrubs are going to need to be all white including your shoes. You can buy your scrub tops, pants, and consultation jacket anywhere. Your tops and jacket are going to need to be embroidered with the MUSC college of nursing logo. That can be done at the bookstore, or you can go to Read's in West Ashley.
That is everything that I can think of. But, you might want to go on the Facebook page and just read people's comments and posts to make sure that I have listed everything.
Congratulations again! It's a lot to do but you can do it! One step at a time, right?"
