MUSC Accelerated BSN Spring 2017

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm a pre-nursing student in Charleston, SC hoping to apply for Medical University of South Carolina's Accelerated BSN program for the spring of 2017.

I'm currently completing the pre-requisites at College of Charleston, which doesn't have it's own nursing program.

I'm going to be applying with around 75 hours including the 60 hours of pre-reqs, and expect to have a GPA of about 3.8.

I'm 19, and I'm planning to apply this summer at the end of my sophomore year, but I'm worried about my chances without a previous degree and some experience working in healthcare. I'll have a good number of hospital volunteer hours, but that's it.

Is there anyone who's currently in the program right now, or has a applied before? What do you think my chances of getting in with my expected GPA and just the pre-reqs are?

Thanks!

Yup, that's the stats from this morning. I'm not sure on when the letters start going out though... I hope soon! I'm so excited and incredibly nervous at the same time!

So nervous! Do you think they actually mail out acceptance letters or they send it via email? That would stink if we have to wait for snail mail haha

eeek is that for priority admission or regular?

Oh good, that makes me feel a little better since I didn't find anything in today's mail. Thanks!

They send out actual letters, not email. But I've heard that after letters have gone out, you can find out over the phone by calling Mardi Long, if you don't want to wait for the mail.

The chart didn't specify but I'm assuming the number accepted right now is mostly priority acceptance? I'm not sure how many normally get in priority. The regular admission applicants still have until sept 15th to get everything in by (I think) so after that the numbers will probably be going up quickly. The chart just shows the totals for all applications received and accepted.

How many applications have they received to date? A little over 200, I think you said? That's pretty good!

I'm wondering, if people apply priority and aren't accepted in that admissions round, do you think they'll be "reconsidered" when they meet to review regular applications?

Yes! I was curious about that too! I did read on another forum though that the applications from priority do roll over to regular admissions if you don't make it the first round.

Sorry I have been so slow at replying to this forum. But yes, if you apply for priority and do not make the cut, then they roll your application over to regular admission. I am one of those people who applied priority because my stats were so close to the cut off line. I am extremely nervous to find out because this is my second time around applying and do not want to get denied again.. I am hoping the priority students that are accepted find out within the next week or so because then I will know mine got pushed to regular admission. UGHHH the waiting process is terrible!!

I'm with you with the right on the edge thing--I barely met the priority GPA requirement, so I'm glad we get a second chance if we don't get selected out of that group. Hopefully we'll find out soon! Good luck!

Good luck to you as well! Where are you from? I live in Pawleys Island SC and I'm about an hour and a half away from the campus so it shouldn't take the mail too long to get to me from the school.

Thanks! I live in Mt. Pleasant, so if there's one with my name on it hopefully I'll get it soon
