I've got about 2 more paragraphs to finish on the paper for this class. OMG, I hate this class. I feel like I'm writing about things I completely do not agree with or believe in. Bleh.

Every MSN program has a similar course -- in my B&M program, it was called something about "trends and issues" in contemporary nursing. We had to do (among other assignments over the semester) in-class debates -- the instructors provided a list of topics, and you signed up for the "pro" or "con" team on the topic of your choice. I intentionally signed up for a position that I don't personally believe or support precisely because constructing and defending a position you don't personally believe is a better intellectual and educational experience than defending a position you already hold. (And ended up being voted the most effective debater and "winner" of the entire debate experience by the rest of the class because I made such a compelling case for a position that none of the students in the class agreed with.) It's easy to write about topics you care about and positions you support -- the educational piece of the process (and a useful skill) is being able to write cogently and effectively about topics you don't support or care about. Best wishes!
Oh my gosh. I am taking this class now and I hate it with a passion that I don't have words for.
I am am not a spiritual person at all. I like science and information. This course is asking us to build a spiritual connection with our patients. I don't want to build a spiritual connection with my patients. To me, if I were a spiritual person, that seems to be a very personal thing and not something I want to share with the public. It feels creepy, like it crosses a personal boundary between the caregiver and the nurse. It all seems to new age-y. Not my cup of tea.
Just st ant wait for it to be over.
