Moving from TX to MI, still a student, where should I test?

Hello,

Not really sure if this was the right place to post.

I am graduating in December. Immediately after graduation I am moving from Texas to Michigan. Should I apply take my NCLEX here in TX and transfer to MI, or should I just register to take it in MI? There is a lot of information on the websites and I'm having a hard time determining which would take less time.

Thank you,

Sara

Take it in Texas to pick up the Compact license and the 25 or so states that identify the compact.

As soon as he/she leaves TX, that license loses its multi-state privileges.

michigan nursing is not a joke so please be prepared to know what you know. The nurses there work and get educated not like in Texas where they be Lvn 20 years.

Seriously?

To get your license by endorsement in MI, you still have to get a background check and your fingerprints done. It took about two months in 2014.

It would probably be faster to take the NCLEX in MI.

(PS - Felecia, that was a pretty dumb and rude statement.)

Specializes in Pediatric Critical Care.
You can *test* wherever you want. You can take a road trip to Utah and take the test there if you want. When you APPLY to test, you have to specify which BON you want the test results to go to. And since you're moving immediately, you should specify that you want the results to go to Michigan. But where you physically take the test is of no importance.

Wish I had known this when I graduated!

I agree. After graduation, the school still needs to send your authorization to test so its not like you can do the N-CLEX the next day anyway. You will have time to send transcripts and whatever else is needed, and you will save yourself several steps of hassle.

Michigan is my home state, by the way. I miss it!
