moving to Texas, which city is better? Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio?

Published

My family is moving down to Texas, however we haven't decided which city we are moving to. We are looking at Houson, Dallas, and San Antonio. Any input is appreciated. We dropped Austin as the living cost might be way too high. or any of these cities is better for nursing careers?

Would like to hear your suggestions. Thanks.

I am looking into moving to one of thoses cities next year also. I am leaning toward maybe a suburb of Houston. I would love to know what Texans input is about how to choose.

Excuse me :nono:

Alot of nursing jobs to pick from in the Austin area, as well as alot of nearby towns to live in with a close commute.

Houston is great for cost of living, and jobs are aplenty.

Which part of Houston is better to live then? We are thinking of buying a home there now. Thanks!:thankya:

Pearland is great b/c it is so close to the med center.

I would have dropped Austin too, it is overcrowded, I-35 is a mess (enough said). I would choose Dallas or Houston. Both are great, have great hospitals, nice surbs, nice place to raise a family.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Keep in mind that many displaced nurses from the Gulf Coast have ended up in Houston due to Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. This influx of experienced nurses might have somewhat affected the local job market, since the nurses from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are receiving licensure priority.

I was watching CNN recently and a New Orleans hospital has laid off 1,100 nurses since there's very few patients, resulting in too low of a census. The bulk of these nurses are starting anew in Houston. Just something to get you thinking.....

I'm hopefully to get accepted to nursing program this year. If I get accepted, I will graduate in two years. By the time, the job market might change. Thanks for thoughtful suggestion.

we checked the housing price in pearland. it's quite expensive and not within our budget. since we are a first home buyer, we have a limited budget. we are looking at houses ranged from 90-120 k with 3-4 bedrooms.

any suggestions for "nice , low crime rate areas" with houses around that price range? thanks!

have you looked at katy, texas? it is a desirable, low-crime suburb located west of houston with plenty of good schools and shopping.

channelview is another affordable suburb located east of houston.

and then there's pasadena, texas, another safe suburb of houston with homes in your price range.

Are there any close ,safe cities in the DFW area that are also close to Med centers like Pearland is?
