Mount St. Mary's College LA - Accelerated BSN 2010

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.

This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls :o)

Good luck to all you!!

Sounds like they are getting harder on the interviewees. Mine is tomorrow, and most likely one of the last ones.

By the way, I thought it was 40 accepted, as well. So if they are only interviewing 60, yes pretty good odds.

OK, now fashion choices. I have grey slacks, black slacks or a b/w skirt with a pattern. I have awesome shoes no matter what. I do not have a suit jacket, most likely a black sweater with white under. Paul, what do you think? :)

Hi All,

I'm currently in the ABSN program at MSMC. I'm a part of the August '09 cohort. Your threads look similar to the ones we had before we started. What I suggest is contacting the nursing department directly and asking for the ABSN program coordinator and if there's any current information, she will know. She's better with email than she is with the phone. Applicant files first go through the admissions office, then to the nursing office. If you haven't heard anything yet, it could just mean that your file hasn't reached the nursing department so don't lose hope.

FYI, in this program information gets out to the students very slowly. Many people found out pretty late that they had been accepted. If you haven't heard anything, don't be discouraged. If you get accepted, there is a whole packet of things you'll have to complete before the program starts.

For us, the orientation day was the first day of the program. However, if you get accepted, they'll provide you with a date and you'll have to go to the school BEFORE the program starts, take the math test and pass with 80% and also get fitted for your uniforms. Just some things to consider if you're planning on making travel plans.

Good luck to all of you!

Dawn

Hi, Dawn! Do you recall what the math test was like? I'm curious.

Thanks!

Math test was very simple and basic math. When you're accepted, they'll give you a sample math exam, which is very similar to the math exam you'll be taking. you have to get an 84% to pass....if you don't pass, you have to complete tutoring at the school and you'll be allowed to retake the test again. if you don't pass that, then they can revoke your acceptance. the people who tutor you are VERY GOOD and will do everything to help you. people who have "failed" the math exam the first time get an almost perfect score the second time they take it.

nothing to worry about :D

Thanks, Rocky!! So, there's not a lot of algebra, right? Mostly fractions, decimals, percent and whole number questions?

there's a couple "solve for X" questions but real simple...for example: 42 = 5x + 2...x = 8.

lots of addition, subtraction, division, multiplying of decimals and fractions. conversion of percents into decimals, decimals to percents, percents to fractions, etc. and 1-2 word problems.

Rocky- You're awesome! Thanks :)

If any more pop into your mind. . .let me know. I am going to start reviewing.

For our cohort there were a total of 40 spots. I think for our cohort they offered admission to 43-46 people b/c there was a few at orientation that were not in class the first day. So far, one person dropped out the first week due to family reasons so we have 39. They may actually accept a few more b/c they expect a few to drop last minute.

As for interviewing clothes, wear business casual and you will be fine. I wore black dress pants and a button down shirt with close toed shoes and my hair was up. I dressed like I would for any business/corporate interview. Dark colors are always best and hair back so it's neat. I wouldn't get all crazy over what you are wearing, as long as you are professional looking. And no skinny jeans :lol2: I think the most important thing is how you come across verbally. That means being prepared so you are comfortable and being yourself. For the person that said they didn't think the interviewer liked them for being real, I would suspect you are over-analyzing or being a bit negative b/c you are nervous. MSM's has a very supportive team of people working for them. The reason they interview is to find the people that will fit perfectly into the next cohort. It's a small group of people. You are with these people well over 40 hours a week for one full year. It's important they attempt to gather a group that is compatible with each other. Your cohort will become your family.

As for the math test, take one day at a time. First get the acceptance letter. Once you pay a deposit and get the packet, there will be a math test prep packet in there to answer all your questions. And like Rocky said, you really have nothing to worry about. Like I said, MSM's is very supportive, once you are part of the family, they will do everything they can to help you out.

Sounds good!! I'm going in a suit with power-blue shirt :) I was going to wear a nice-fitting green and white striped shirt, but I guess that it's more professional to dress conservatively. It's probably a bad idea to go into the interview looking all hot ;)

I also decided to wear my glasses, in efforts to make me appear more intelligent :)

I'm soooo nervous! I got here way too early and all the coffee I drank is making me jittery!!

I'm about to go into the waiting room. I hope that I meet some of you :)

I just got out!! The interview went very well. We spoke for half an hour! Hopefully I'll see you guys in august!!

Oh yeah, I met Joanna! Stop lurking :)
