Mount St. Mary's College LA - Accelerated BSN 2009

Published

This is a new thread for anyone applying to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles. Please feel free to share, and discuss your application process with us.

There is also lots of information available through previous MSMC threads!

Good luck to everyone!

:D

does anyone know when they would do interview or even send out the letters for the interviews? When I called the lady answering the phone said that they might not do them this Fall, but I think she was just a student worker because she was not 100% sure. Keep me up dated thanks

I called and spoke to Joelle. She said interviews are going to take place and they're going to be emailling notices out to people. Also, there are about 300 apps for Fall 2009 and 40 admitted. Qualified people will be interviewed (not just grades but also after evaluating personal statements, rec letters, etc).

I'm a bit nervous now. Didn't realize the applicant pool was so large...

Wow, 300 applicants this year? That's quite a bit larger than I'd heard in the past....Good luck to everyone!!!:D

Good grief..... 300 applicants? Best of luck to all of us!!

My WebAdvisor still does not show that any of my docs have been received. Anyone else feeling my pain? Is it time to freak out? :chair:

Mine isn't showing either actually. But I checked and they only received my documents on March 16. So it hasn't been the 2 weeks yet. I heard somewhere in the grapevine to wait that time out before calling. Else you might end up calling some highly stressed people.

No, I wouldn't freak out yet. It took them a month to post a letter of rec that was mailed on 2/17--I did freak out about that then though and asked my prof to resubmit it because I thought it got lost in the mail. They just hadn't gotten to it. I called and they confirmed that they had received it and that when the website was updated, the postmark would serve as the date of receipt. I am still waiting for a transcript that was mailed on March 2 to post. Just try to be patient.

LOL I just checked right now and it has finally been updated. The transcript that was mailed on 3/2 was received on 3/3 and that was barely updated on 3/25! I also have two letters of rec from the same prof because I thought that the first one was lost in the mail.

Whew! Mine was just updated today and my application is officially complete. Best of luck to all of us. I caught up on the last few threads. In case you are still interested, I am 30, so I guess I'm on the older end on this board! Also, someone mentioned the Doheny campus. I actually attended the Mount as a Weekend College student. I was able to be on both the Chalon campus (which is AMAZING) and then we were later transferred to the Doheny campus. I really loved the campus. So if we all get in, I'm sure you will be extremely happy there!

Thanks for the info.. I'm glad they're making progress on your applications (and no lost docs, yay!). Hopefully they'll get to mine soon. With so many applicants, they must have their hands full. I wonder how many people will be offered interviews this term? This is the only school I applied to - probably shouldn't have put all my eggs in one basket, huh? hehe. Hope we all get in! :D

That's strange that she didn't mention it at the earlier info sessions. I felt like she was really emphasizing it at the ones I went to. In any case, you both turned in your applications early, so I'm sure you took the time to work on them and that they turned out well. I know a few people who are applying at the last minute, and I know that at least for them (given the time constraints), being able to address them separately will make getting it done easier.

I applied to CSULA,UCLA, CSULB, CSUF, CSUN and MSMC. I regret not applying to out of state schools. I didn't because I wanted to avoid incurring extra debt with out-of-state/ private school tuition. I didn't realize how competitive the public university nursing programs would be.

Before going to the first info session, I really wasn't interested in applying. But then I visited the campus and loved it. I thought Mary Sloper was great--she sold me on the program. I only seriously considered MSMC because of the forgiveable loan for half the tuition. I really want to avoid accumulating too much unnecessary debt. I went to the second info session just by coincidence. A friend of mine was going to attend, so I decided to tag along to get some additional questions answered.

Has anyone found out when we might hear about interviews for MSMC?

Hi I have been accepted to their program starting in May.. Have you heard anymore about the scholarships? I am in northern california and with all the freezes I am doubtful about how many will be offered. Mary told me that the # is decided every year. I thought a student from last year said 7 got kaiser and 7 got Torrance.. That doesn't sound like too many.. I really like the school. I have been accepted to 2 others that are one year programs but moving down south is a lot to me when I was accepted up here. The scholarships would make a big difference.. Just wondered also what have you heard about the clinicals. The school up here I have heard bad things but not for the Mount:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:by the way I think my interview was in January for the May class

:ancong!: Dmskoka!! Wow 14 does not sound like a lot at all. When I went to the second info session in December, my friend and I asked the financial aid adviser (Dalia Zepeda) several questions about the forgivable loans. She said that there were 40 available for each cohort every year. She told us not to contact the three hospitals but that every year the students in the accelerated program had access to these forgivable loans. She said that we would receive more info once we were admitted. The apparent certainty of getting one of these forgivable loans and having a guaranteed job at the end was really one of the primary reasons that I even applied. I mean that along with loving Mary Sloper's presentation and patience with our questions. She sold me on the program. That said, now that I've been admitted to CSUN's A-BSN I'm leaning more towards that to save on tuition. But then again, if I went to the mount, the commute wouldn't be too bad, so I wouldn't have to move and would be saving a lot in expenses over the year. I am also still waiting to hear from some entry-level MSN programs and wondering if the A-BSN+ getting more experience route might make more sense in the end.

In other words, I am hopelessly confused and driving my family and friends crazy!! hahaha I know I'll decide soon. I have no idea when MSMC is going to interview for the Fall, so I guess I'll find out soon enough. If the Summer application was due Nov 1 and they interviewed in January, then maybe they will interview for the Fall in May??

Good luck making your decision and congrats on getting it!

I haven't heard anything about the clinicals. Several friends of a friend have told my friend that the program is intense and a lot of work, but doable...so who knows. I got the impression from the info session that the clinicals start fairly early into the program.

Did you accept the offer of admission already? How does that work if you change your mind later? I guess they always have alternates, right?

yes I paid my money... IT was the first school that I heard from so I had to say yes. Yes that was my main reason to . I was impressed but I am not so sure now.. I emailed Dalia and asked how many got it last year. no response. I think I will call. Rosie there said she kept stats.. I don't know where I am going and I am up in north ca. I found one complex that I liked but it is expensive.. very hard when you don't know the program.. congrats on csun !! I applied but knew that I didn't stand a chance. My gpa I guess is high enough for a private but not for a public school. I took a buyout from my job and am 43 so I have no choice but to go through fast.. I will investigate further. I am not sure if we are getting the true picture reported ....
