This is a new thread for anyone applying to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles. Please feel free to share, and discuss your application process with us.
There is also lots of information available through previous MSMC threads!
Good luck to everyone!
I was accepted into the Summer 09 class. Just to give you an idea of the timeline I had:
App in Oct 31 (due 11/1)
interview email received 12/5
acceptance letter 1/16
huge packet of forms sent in early Feb.
So there was about a month between deadline and interview. Make sure they have your current email address as that is how you will be contacted. Oh, and don't sweat the math test, it's not difficult. You'll receive a practice test with all the other forms. If you know how to do the practice problems, you're good to go. The math test will be done the same day as your uniform fitting.
Good luck to you all.
It feels like such a long time ago now. I had my interview with Mary the director. She's very friendly and puts you at ease. Other admin people will be interviewing as well though. The interview is sort of informal like a conversational getting to know you session. She asked about why I chose nursing, why MSMC. I was asked how I dealt with stress. I think the last question was about competitiveness and how well I worked in a group setting. The interview is short, maybe 25-30mins. She'll let you know if there are any issues with your pre-reqs, things like that. You should just relax and try to be yourself. There's no need to stress about giving the right answer. You've already provided them with a detailed personal statement so I think they're just trying to get to know you and see if you'll be a good fit for the school and vice versa.
I got accepted for this summer,,, The interview they let me do over the phone as I am not in the area.. It was very casual. Mary asked about my specific situation.. my age that sorta came up and my ability to move.. I have been accepted into other schools and am still a little on the fence but it has been my favorite so far. I couldn't make the math/uniform testing so I had to go on my own. They gave a practice test for the math and I was actually practicing still that morning in the motel and I scored a 100.. and math is not my thing. It seems like a very friendly school and I have to say a lot more on top of things than other schools.. I did some research on the scholarships and there were think only 17 total given out. They said that they think the traditional program is competiting too and I have heard rumors that one hospital might not offer after the summer so just some more info... Good Luck....
I appreciate the info!
Wow I'm a little concerned about this scholarship situation - I was kinda depending on that (if I get accepted, that is). Are there other options for students who are.. ahem... broke? Private student loans? I hear there are several hospitals that will agree to pay off student loans upon hiring, but I am unclear about the process. Anyone have any insight?
Thanks :wink2:
p.s. totally random, but what is this "uniform" we get fitted for? scrubs?
Can't really say much about the loan forgiveness scholarships. Admin/financial aid won't talk about them with us yet. They become available to apply for during your 1st semester (for us, during the summer). The scholarships cover the last two semesters. If you're broke or not, do a FAFSA. You can get subsidized/unsub. loans and then private loans to help cover the costs.
The uniforms are white pants, white shirt, and lab coat.

oh my God, that freaks me out to know there are 300 app for 40 spots. Is that right?
My file was stated as imcomplete for the longest time, until it got finally updated.
Now, nobody has heard anything about interviews. Do they interview everyone who qualifies? I mean, everyone who has the right GPA and submitted all the documents on time?
Also, how about the math test? when should we be doing them?
