Mount St. Mary's College LA - Accelerated BSN 2009

Published

This is a new thread for anyone applying to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles. Please feel free to share, and discuss your application process with us.

There is also lots of information available through previous MSMC threads!

Good luck to everyone!

:D

I coulda sworn you still did good though!? Like 90% right? I didn't do so hot in math either.. I think mine was an 86% but I got a 91.3% overall.

I realized that the score is more important than I previously thought, so I decided to retake it.

I went to info session last year, i don't remember the name of the speaker, but she said that for the essay questions, each question does not need to be addressed separately as you said, we could write however we want, either addressed them separately or combine them into one coherent essay.

I have a question. How come some of you need to take the TEAS test? I remember MSMC doesn't require TEAS test, do they?

I went to two info sessions last Fall. Once in October and another one in December. At both info sessions, the speaker, Mary Sloper, repeated several times that they did not want you to spend time writing "a beautiful essay" that combined the questions into one coherent essay. She said it was more important to spend time reflecting on the individual questions and demonstrate that we had thoroughly thought out our answer. She did say that they preferred to have the questions addressed separately and even listed as: Question #1 Why ...? [followed by your answer]. She said that if you really wanted to combine them you could, but if she also explained that they preferred to have each question addressed separately, why not do it the way the people who will be deciding prefer it? My :twocents:

If you have any doubts call them and double check. I was just passing along some of the info that I gleaned from the info sessions that I attended. Considering that the deadline is in a few days, it is also much easier to answer the questions separately (especially for someone completing it at the last minute)--and if that's what the director prefers--it seems like a win-win situation to me.

Regarding the TEAS Assessment, it is not for this program. You do not need the TEAS for the A-BSN at MSMC.

Best of luck to everyone!!

I went to the info session in August 2008. It doesn't matter anymore because I already submitted my application, and I answered those questions in a coherent essay format.

May I ask what other schools are you guys applying? for A-BSN program also? I think LLU requires TEAS test, also other public schools.

Is there any of you applying to out of state schools?

Hi Tulips. I attended an info session April 2008 and wasn't told either about their preference for the essay. I did just one semi-coherent essay and submitted my app already!

That's strange that she didn't mention it at the earlier info sessions. I felt like she was really emphasizing it at the ones I went to. In any case, you both turned in your applications early, so I'm sure you took the time to work on them and that they turned out well. I know a few people who are applying at the last minute, and I know that at least for them (given the time constraints), being able to address them separately will make getting it done easier.

I applied to CSULA,UCLA, CSULB, CSUF, CSUN and MSMC. I regret not applying to out of state schools. I didn't because I wanted to avoid incurring extra debt with out-of-state/ private school tuition. I didn't realize how competitive the public university nursing programs would be.

Before going to the first info session, I really wasn't interested in applying. But then I visited the campus and loved it. I thought Mary Sloper was great--she sold me on the program. I only seriously considered MSMC because of the forgiveable loan for half the tuition. I really want to avoid accumulating too much unnecessary debt. I went to the second info session just by coincidence. A friend of mine was going to attend, so I decided to tag along to get some additional questions answered.

Has anyone found out when we might hear about interviews for MSMC?

Hi Leviola. It could be because when I attended, it was Araba who was handling the info sessions. Shortly after the April session, she left the Mount. But I agree, it would have been much easier addressing each question separately! I wish I would have known.

Anyways, I was wondering if any of you have been having problems getting someone from the office to call you back? I have a question regarding a Microbio class, but no one will return my call.

That makes more sense! It was a different person.

One of my transcripts is still listed as missing, but I know it was mailed last Monday. I called this number (213) 477-2500 on Friday and someone called me back from this number on Monday 310-954-4000 and suggested I call back today. I've tried emailing in the past, but haven't gotten a response then.

Hi! I've called Joelle at 213-477-2558 and she was able to answer my questions. Apparently she's an admissions counselor.

Wow! This thread has certainly seen some action since I was last here...

So, I'm happy to say my application was sent a bit ago. I had some trouble with transcripts that were mailed back in early February but didn't show up as received in the online system. The person I spoke with in the office told me not to re-send them, they're just swamped with transcripts and were bogged down processing them. Sure enough, they were listed "received" this week. I've definately had problems with trying to get ahold of people regarding questions about pre-requisites and application docs. They're probably overloaded with calls like that.

I am still worried about one of my recommendation letters that hasn't shown up in the system. It wasn't mailed until Tuesday....

I read on one of the other MSMC threads that the Torrance scholarship may not be offered anymore, starting with the upcoming Fall class. :bluecry1: ...that's just a rumor, but it bummed me out because I would be interested in Torrance more than Kaiser.

Good luck to everyone!

We should be hearing about interviews by the end of April, beginning of May.

Woohoo!!:yeah:
