Mount Sinai ABSN Summer 2021

Published

Hi everyone,

I know there's forums for Mount Sinai's ABSN program for the last couple of cohorts, but nothing for Summer 2021. Thought I'd start this one and see if anyone else has applied for the Summer 2021 start?

So my undergrad in sociology GPA is not great its a 2.83. I got an A's in micro,A&P I and II, statistics. B in nutrition and a C in Chem ?

but I made sure my essay explained why my GPA was low and my dedication to being in the program and also my recommendation letters were really good as well. I was really scared I wouldn't get in but I think if they see you're dedicated and have the drive to do well you'll get in.

Can we mail our transcripts directly to Mount Sinai or does it strictly have to be sent to NursingCAS? Portage has been giving me issues. I sent a request for a transcript from them to be sent to NursingCAS at the beginning of the month and its no where to be found ??‍♀️ Im thinking of requesting another one to be sent directly to Mount Sinai.

NursingCAS won’t verify your application until they’ve received/reviewed all of your transcripts to make sure they match what you manually entered. This process usually takes about 1-2 weeks (they did it pretty quickly for me, in about a week).  Once they verify your application they forward it to PSON for review.  Even if you forward the transcripts directly to Mount Sinai, the rest of your application is going to remain unverified on NursingCAS. Did you call Portage and they said they had no record of your request? Under the transcript tab in your student dashboard it keeps a record of transcript request dates and when they fulfill the request. I would definitely call/e-mail admissions and see what they say.

Requesting transcripts on Portage is free, so while waiting for an e-mail response/waiting to call PSON tomorrow, I would re-request transcripts to be sent to NursingCAS so whatever happens, they receive them as soon as possible.  Best of luck!

I already submitted my app before the March 15th deadline! It was just odd to me because I also sent transcripts the same day to NYU and they received it while PSON did not =\ I reached out to NursingCAS regarding this and they don’t see any transcripts, and was told to wait a couple days and they’ll reach out to me if anything. So I decided to request another one and have it sent directly to NursingCAS again. Portage does show they completed the request. But to be on the safe side I requested it again. Thank you though, for your response!

Anyone have any idea how to pay for this school?

Have any of you received your financial aid packages? Are you mainly given loans?

I exclusively got loans, so I didn’t even bother doing the scholarship application. I don’t need more loans and I certainly am not willing to pay the entire $56k this school costs ?

The book themselves can run quite expensive. We use something called Lippincott coursepoint. Unfortunately with this software you can’t avoid buying the textbooks or buy another textbook secondhand to replace it because we use virtual simulations and online quizzes to do the classwork. They are quite costly and I believe it was like $750 the first semester (total) and then this current semester was about $680. So I highly suggest if you are working now to start saving so that way when the books do come up you have some thing to cushion the blow.

also if you haven’t taken any or all of the pre-requisites I highly suggest taking them before you start the program. It is going to be an additional cost at first but I promise you it will save you a lot of money at the end. For the first semester you can take pathophysiology and pharmacology alongside the rest of the courses but they are very difficult and you’d be taking 5 classes a week and having to manage all the tests (which can result in three tests a week ). The school accepts most transfer credits for those classes but if you don’t have it yet I highly recommend Portage Learning which is an online website that you can just take the class at your own pace. Those classes are about $600 each for pathophysiology, ethics, pharmacology or other. You have to have your portage certificate before the semester starts. You cannot take portage classes while you are taking classes at PSON instead of theirs, it must be done prior. I had taken both pathophysiology and nutrition online. When the semester started I saved $5000 in tuition because I didn’t have to take those classes. So at first $600 seems like a lot but you consider $5000 you really do save yourself time, effort, and money. It is really important in this program to reduce your workload as much as possible because it’s a lot of information being thrown at you at a very fast rate which is something that comes along with being in an accelerated program!

Youre honestly like an angel!! I cant believe you can take patho and pharma beforehand. I just hope I learn enough in order to be able to use it in school LOL. Can you take both pharma and patho? They would accept both from Portage?
