Motlow Applicants 2014

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hey everyone! Just wanted to create a place for potential Motlow Nursing students for fall 2014 to converse, ask questions, and get to know each other. Anyone out there? If so, which campus do you hope to attend? I live near Lavergne, so Smyrna campus will be my home base.

For those of you who have questions about the process over the next 6 months, I went through all of the application/acceptance/orientation/etc steps last year, but had to withdraw 3 weeks before classes started due to a financial aid fiasco...so I know what's to come and would be glad to clarify anything for you.

Good luck to everyone and hope to be meeting you all this summer!

Thank you for all your insight and helpful tips jeepchick97![/quote']

You're welcome!

The wait is grueling!!!! Good luck!

I think there are fantastic teachers and not-so-great teachers in the program. I LOVE that each teacher is responsible for their own content, so we have different teachers throughout the semester. I think the most any one of our teachers taught this semester was 7 lectures. Much better than being stuck with a bad teacher for an entire semester, even with a bad teacher (and this semester we only have 2), you can still do well on a test if you work hard and do all the reading. Overall the program is fantastic. Very, very hard but it forces you to grow and change for the better, imo.

First semester is very tough because everything is so new and it's a major shock and tough to adjust to. Second semester has challenging lab, but the content isn't too bad and clinicals are fun. It's definitely better than the first. Third semester is when it gets real, lol. The tests make first yr seem like a piece of cake (we lost a bunch of people third), but clinical is getting easier. Fourth is totally awesome! :) (7 WEEKS LEFT!!)

Congrats on being so close to the end!! Must be an amazing feeling. :) I'm really glad to hear the positives about the faculty and the way they split the content. I can't imagine struggling through an entire semester with the same not-so-great instructor. Great teachers can really make all the difference.

Any advice for adjusting during the intimidating first semester? Anything you wish you had done prior to 'prepare' for it?

The wait is grueling!!!! Good luck!

YES. But emails should be sent out soon! I went back through my emails from last year and saw that I received my acceptance notice on 4/19. The countdown is on! :nailbiting:

Hello all! I applied for the 2014 program with 675 points. After reading all these posts, it makes me wanna puke (even more)! I'm hoping that you all are correct in that there will be less applicants and more spots this semester.

There's really no way to know how many applicants there will be, but hopefully the increased number of spots will work in your favor. Good luck!

Honestly, there is nothing you can do to really prepareā€¦ The "Test Success" book helps with testing (along with Fundamentals Success and the rest in the series). Be prepared for the amount of time needed, I didn't know it would be so many days per week in class and so much extra lab practice time.

Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely invest in the Success books.

I'm very fortunate to have a fully supportive husband who'll be bearing the financial weight while I'm in the program, so I won't have to share my study time with a part-time job. I already have it in my head that school will be all-consuming and I will have no life for the next 2 years...lol.

Question: I saw in another thread that you primarily use your Macbook for note-taking and everything else; do you have all e-books as well? If so, how does that work as far as the 'no electronics in clinicals' rule? I remember them stating that in orientation last year, so I'm leery of purchasing e-books over the real thing for fear that I may need my tablet/laptop at a time when they're not allowed.

I know this wasn't directed to me, but I have all hard books. I can't imagine studying off an electronic device. Everyone in my clinical group had his or her own Drug Book, (which is one of the required books) for clinicals. We kept our book w/ our clinical bag that we kept in a conference-like room during clinical. We used our book on the floor only when we passed meds. The VAST majority of students in my class printed the PPs provided, and added additional information to them. Unfortunately, recording of lectures is not allowed, which would have helped me a lot. I asked if there was any way that policy could be changed. The instructor whom I asked said that was being considered, but who knows if it will come to fruition.

I have applied for Fall 2014 and really nervous! My GPA is 3.76 and my HESI score was 85.6. I don't know if that is going to be good enough to "make the cut". Good luck to everyone! :)

Is the drug book the only text needed at clinicals?

I can't imagine purchasing the major books as e-books (med/surg, pharm, etc), just because I'm a bit too hands-on to do major studying from an electronic device as well....but with there being so many other recommended/suggested texts, I'm thinking of getting the e-book versions of those to give me on-the-spot access (study, study, study!) and to cut down on bulk and cost. I don't know though. I know it's a preference thing, but it's hard to know ahead of time what will work best for me.

I hope they change gears with lecture recording. That would be a huge benefit.

Welcome hopeful! Those scores give you a 710, so I'd definitely say you are a contender. I have a 705 and was accepted last year. Good luck! Which campus have you applied for?

Jeepchick97....

Lmk if you decide to sell any of your books for nursing school. If I get accepted in, I would be interested ;)

hopeful2brn2016

Your score is better than mine! I have a 705.

Does anyone know what date they will send emails out?
