  1. Yes, of course LPNs are a thing! I work w/ some amazing LPNs in my hospital! Why would any facility not utilize its LPNs to the fullest scope of their practice. That's crazy. Very few things LPNs in my hospital cannot do. They cannot initially assess the patient, cannot push IV pain meds. or any medication that lowers the BP, cannot administer blood, but can witness/co-sign it, cannot 'give report' or 'take report' w/o an RN present, cannot do IPOCS, which takes a whole minute to, and most everything else they do. This is such a foreign concept that ALL nurses are not being fully utilized.
  2. Isn't a psychiatric hospital a mental hospital? It's a synonym. It's a hospital for a person's mental health.
  3. Why on earth would someone even pose this question and present himself or herself as a nurse? That doesn't even make sense. A bit judgy, perhaps? Maybe the person is a med. tech. & is not a nurse? Would that make a difference? BTW, I replied to the OP that the facility where I work just recently instituted this same policy. If I can get ahold of our safety huddle paper from that week, I'll copy it and post it here as proof. Lol.
  4. Yes! That is exactly what our new policy states. It's sometimes difficult to open the packages w/ pills!
  5. NURS 1400 is a nine hour class. That nine hour class is like taking double full-full time non-nursing college classes.
  6. They are strict w/ that. Unless you have a disability (like one lady had ADHD and maybe something else, IDK) you won't be able to record. Apparently, some x amount of years ago, lecture recording was allowed, but someone took advantage of it (I'm not sure if I should say WHAT the people did.) and the no recording policy went in place.
  7. No, which is horrible! I asked about that last semester (toward the end) if they would reconsider allowing recording devices. One instructor said 'that might be a possibility in the future'. Every single RN whom I've asked what they thought the number one piece of advice was in getting through nursing school was to record lectures. They do give power point notes...and of courses the voluminous amount of reading.
  8. Yes, the new nursing facilities at Smyrna are top notch, for sure! We meet at Moore Co. so that everyone is together during certain lectures. They talked about somewhat less 'meetings' at the main campus, but it wasn't set in stone, so it MAY be slightly less. The driving really isn't so bad if you carpool. You can get to know other students better and study! You will quickly learn that most every minute is extremely valuable in NS.
  9. There is no 'part time' nursing program at Motlow. Students must make nursing school their top priority. Any work for pay is scheduled around the nursing program.
  10. You're welcome! I'm sorry for all the typos. I was on my phone...which I usually do post from my phone.
  11. I just wanted to say, 'Congratulations' to everyone who was accepted! Enjoy your summer & be prepared to work extremely hard! Good luck!
  12. Someone asked about orientation, and Farmer mentioned paying about $100 for a background check. Ours was somewhat less, $30 something. I think it was mentioned at our orientation that they contracted out w/ a different company for the background check, which resulted in shelling out a little less dough.
  13. My class has some people who work. I don't know how they've done done it. Some are CNAs and their employers have let them work like one weekend a month or something lie that to keep them on the rotation so they wouldn't lose their jobs. Those who worked full-time, have kids, et al., I REALLY don't know how they've done it! If at all possible, IMO, it's best to attend nursing school only, especially if one has kids.
  14. I'm pretty sure for 1st semester, my class went twice a week, until clinicals started. I can't recall our exact time, but I'm thinking 8:30 (I know thats the correct start time.) until 2:30 or 3:00? We did have an hour for lunch. Then, we only went on either Tuesdays or Thursdays, whichever day was opposite of clinical day. They split is up here, kind of according to clinical groups. On Mondays & Wednesdays, from 9-12, we had lecture on our home campus. Everyone receives the same lecture, as it is by satellite or something like that. It's kind of like watching tv, only it's your instructor speaking, & questions can be asked. For those who had dosage, that was on Mondays only from 8:00-8:55. We did not change classrooms and other than 'final' day, tests were never on the same day day. That was planned, which was great! Carpooling is great! Most did carpool. Oh, we had all return demonstrations done at the main campus. Basically, that's where you demonstrate your skills. For example, we had a vital signs return and a medication return. I think most schools refer to these as skill check offs.
  15. Whoops! I left off 'before me'! Sorry!
