Most Humorous Call-In Excuses

Updated:   Published

Just the other day, an employee decided to call-in on his last day of employment with our hospital. His brother is a nurse on my floor so that's how I know he called in with the following excuse:

Employee: "I'm not coming in today."

Nursing Services: "And your reason?"

Employee: "I have *** blindness."

Nursing Services: "Excuse me?"

Employee: "I have *** blindness. I can't see my *** coming into work today." Hangs up phone.

Now, I've heard this one before. But this was the first time I had actually heard of it being used. Only recommended on your very last day on a job at a place you never plan on returning to!

So what's the funniest excuse you've ever given or heard about?

The over ride rope is inside the garage and he had an attached garage to his home, so he should have had access to the inside of his garage. I had not thought though what happens to people who have unattached garages. Guess they need to make sure they have the door key to their garage on their key chain.

Oh ok, I was truly curious because like I said before, I don't have a house key. I mean it doesn't matter now since my husband installed the key pad, but I have been locked out of my house before because the clicker died. Or course had I been in I could still leave, I would just shut it from the thing on the wall and run out LOL. Anyway, thanks for letting me know.

This wasn't for nursing but I knew someone that called in after lunch because he went home for a nooner and apparently ummm finished and shot himself in the eye :stone Not sure how he managed that one but I saw him later that day and his eye was all red and irratated :stone

When I worked in Childcare for many years, guess a lot of people didn't know what they were getting into, they wouldn't call in, they would go to lunch and not come back :stone

The best one I ever heard was a CNA who called in because he got in a fight with his girlfriend. Apparently she got mad, ran him over with her car, and broke his leg. It turned out to be true!

I had to call in once when I got skunked, twice in the same morning. 1st when the skunk got into the dog pen and the 1st dog attacked it I was "within the range of fire" (collateral damage). 2nd time (same morning) after I got the dog out and tied up when I went back to get what I thought would be a dead skunk, and it turned out it wasn't yet dead (was a tough little skunk) when the 2nd dog found it and attacked it, and that time I was much closer. Apparently, they can fire that stuff off more than once an hour. It took 2 treatments to get the smell off me, and 2 for each dog.

Another time I called in because my little brother had brought his dog to our house infested with fleas, and we had to de-flea the house, yard, 3 cats, and 2 dogs. Took all day.

And yes, I told my boss "I got skunked" and "I need to de-flea my house". For reference, I was working as a MA both times. My boss said that was the most creative call in she had heard. "Too funny to not be true".

I can't come in because I have explosive diarrhea.

wow! I could go on and on with this one! where I work ,, they want to know every single detail, and then if your DON deems you well enough to come to work,, or she is short staffed.. you come anyway! I know others can relate to this.. kristi

I had to call in late one morning because there was a skunk under my carport, right next to my car! The superviser just laughed!

I certainly was not going to even try to get to my car until I knew for sure that the skunk was gone. Sure enough, he soon left and I made my late way to work.

What state are you in? Here in Wisconsin it's illegal for them to even ask for a reason. You call in and say that you aren't able to come in to work and they have to leave it at that.
