Hi all!
I will be taking my NCLEX on July 26th. I am up to about 3500 practice questions using Saunders, Kaplan, and NCLEX EXcell. I just began using the Mosby's CAT website last night. I had just worked a 12 hour shift and then came home and there it was finally in the mail so I had to try it. When I took it last night it predicted a 92% probability of passing and then I took it again today (after being rested) and scored a 96% probability. I find these questions very different from everythng else I have been studying. I was just wondering if anyone else has used this webdite and how you feel about the questions and scoring? Thanks everyone for all the great tips and keep me in your prayers for my big day and I'll do the same for all of you! Congrats to all that have already conquered the NCLEX!
I oredered The boxed version online with my credit card. It came to me in the mail in about 5 days. All it is is a box and inside the box is the link to their website with a test ID number and password on it. I am really enjoying this method of studying and it is really boosting my confidence, and lessening my test anxiety which I think is crtical for NCLEX. I take my boards on the 26th so well really see how it works for me then. Good luck. I promise I don't work for them, but I can't recommend it enough, the questions really take a lot of critical thinking and analysis.
Thanks to all the folks on this board who mentioned the Mosby CAT. I had been lurking and simply reading the nursing student board for a couple of weeks but had honestly made the decision NOT to read anymore until after I take my test--I was getting way too anxious because everyone on the board was so anxious!! Is that 'displacement' and perhaps I need Paxil?? Or more likely, plain old "PANIC"!!!
Anyway, I made the decision yesterday that I was way too scared to take this stupid test and I needed to quit thinking about it so much. My biggest fear is not studying the CORRECT information, not necessarily if I'm using the BEST sources (does that make sense?). I've been using the MedsPub StarNurse Test-A-Day program and their study book (much like Kaplan's) pretty much every day, but the tests actually have errors in them (questions are asking for one thing but the answer is for something else--I've found 3 or 4 like that); I also use learningext (but that is WAY depressing) as well as Saunders (book only) and Lippincott's study guide and CD (WAY hard). Then I saw the thread about Mosby's. Long story short--I ordered the online version yesterday, got an email with my ID today, took two tests of 75 questions and was given a 94% on both tests.
I do have a question: although I got 94% on both tests, my percentiles in the individual categories were in the 45-65 percentile range and I needed moderate additional study in every category. I am wondering how that could be possible and I still scored in the 90th percentile overall. Anyone know?
Thursdaygrl,
I haven't been able to figure out how it all works but I have seen trends in the scoring...
I took NCLEX today so I have no idea of my result yet but I did approximately 10 exams on MOSBY CAT and the difficulty level of the questions progressively increased. I also noticed some repeat questions but in the last 2 or 3 exams I've gotten questions that were much more difficult and still did well. I suggest taking all 150 questions after it says you passed at whatever # it stops you at to receive a comprehensive report. I received similar percentiles as you when I first started the tests and by the end I had a 99% chance of passing with >90% in all test categories (minimal amt of studying) on the last exam I took yesterday. I can say that the way the questions were worded were very similar to the actual test (of course none of the questions were the same, I could only be so lucky!)
I also used learningext.com (3 weeks) and that was challenging as well as Mosby's Review Questions and Saunder's Comprehensive Review...
I will keep everyone posted on the results...pass or fail!
RainDreamer, what did you get on Kaplan Question trainer 7?
I only got 64.8%.... You already that I am scheduled to take the same day you will take it... I am really thinking about postponing the test for 6 days....
The recommended passing score on Kaplan is 70%
But don't worry. You will do great... as far as study goes, I practice much less than you do.
AT this time, I have just done only 1,550 questions.... I know that I will pass....but I just want to be sure that I try to study as hard as I can... In comparison to 90% of all of you here, I prepare much less.
I just purchased MCAT through the link provided under this discussion and I tried to go to the website and log in but says my login is incorrect. The login is the name and password we assigned ourselves that it also states on our receipt correct? And how long does it take to gain access into the actual Mosbys CAT?
THANKS!!!

Call the technical support number that is on the receipt they emailed you on Monday and ask for Cherry. She will set up a test ID for you. (its not the one you picked out). This is what I and many others on here had to do in order to gain access.

I don't have the Kaplan Question Trainer 7. The only Kaplan thing I'm using is the Kaplan 2005-2006 book with the CD.
I don't think I'm studying as much as some people on here, it sounds like everyone else is studying a whole lot more than me. I've done almost 3000 questions so far and still working on more. But a lot of people mention they've done a lot more than that.
When I did the Mosby CAT the first time I got the 82% probability of passing, 2nd time I got a 94%, and then the third time I got an 82 again. So I don't know why I'm getting such a wide range. Everyone else sounds like they're getting 90+. Either that or those are the only people posting about it and the others that are getting lower and not studying quite as much just aren't posting? If that makes sense lol. But I know how you feel ..... compared to some people I don't feel like I'm prepared enough, even though I'm doing a lot.
I've thought about postponing it but I'm determined to just take it on Thurs. I don't think I'm ever going to feel ready enough to take it, I might as well just go get it over with and see what happens.
Don't worry though, I think 1550 questions is good, and you still have time to do more. Like I said a lot of people have said they've done more than that, but I'm sure there are tons of people out there that haven't even done as much studying as you, they're just not posting about it on here. I wish you good luck as well ... we can do this!!!!!!!!!
Raindreamer,
I'm not really studying much at all. I am really all over the board with my studying to be truthful. One day I am frantic about it and will review and do test questions, while on another day I do very little. I have not completed any single review book and I would say that I've probably done approximately 1000 to 1500 test questions. I take the test on July 16 and don't believe I'll be able to prepare anymore this week than I am already prepared. I've got several classmates and co-workers who have taken the test already (and passed) and every single one of them has said to me "I wish I hadn't wasted the time with studying; not one thing I studied was on the test and studying did not help me." With very little variation, they report that the majority of their test questions were priority and delegation, very little math, very few alternate question format questions. The overall impression my friends took away from the test, and that I am getting from them, is studying was truly not helpful as a means to pass the test. They were also very angry that they got so upset and anxious about the test as well.
I think the best thing to do to prepare for this test is confidence--it is simply not possible to know everything and in some cases, I wonder that knowing TOO much could hurt in the long run (too much knowledge may mean you read too much into each question).
thursdaygrl, I've heard the same thing from other people about how everything they studied didn't even seem to help them on the test. That's scary! Yet in a way it's relieving because there is no way you can study everything. I feel like I have studied ok, but not nearly as much as some people ...... I feel like I kinda need a lot more studying in the content area. I've just been doing tons of questions as my study method.
I took another Mosby CAT last night and got a 94. Just took another one right now and got a 99!! This Mosby CAT, if anything, is becoming a confidence booster for me and I'm feeling a little better about it. I haven't gone back and looked through all the questions and answers yet though because I don't want to "know" the correct answers yet since I'm getting some of the same questions on subsequent tests. I think tomorrow I might go back and read all the questions and answers ..... did you all read them?

Thanks for the website information. I have a quick question though, is there any difference between these two products:
#1 Mosby's Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) for the NCLEX-RN ® Examination - Online Version, 2nd Edition
#2 Mosby's Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) for the NCLEX-RN ® Examination - Boxed Version, 2nd Edition
Thanks again,
Brandi
