Moral character hearing NYS for Nursing license

Published

I took my NCLEX passed and was never issued a license due to my previous record (conviction) 8 years ago. I’m scheduled for a hearing well now it’s virtual. I wanted to know if anyone been to a hearing, how is it like? Do they bring witness. I have some letters from family friends co workers. This is in NYS. Any advise suggestions will be appreciated. Yes I do have an attorney

Was wondering if anyone had updates to this. I am currently going through the process, graduated in May, passed NCLEX in June but did not event know I was in review until I called at the end of June. After seeing this forum I called my State Senator to request expedition (I was not gonna wait a year, already have a job lined up) The day after I called, I got called by an investigator. Finally got all requested info and I am being told they are gonna try to schedule a September panel and I can be present if I wish to answer questions and If I come I will get an answer immediately as to whether I will need a hearing, so of course I am going to go. There was no video interview (perhaps that was just a COVID thing?) I am fairly confident I should just pass the hearing, I have very obvious evidence of rehabilitation and have been working as a Paramedic for over 10 years, was also previously cleared by the Department of Health for my Paramedic Certificate

I got my license feb of this year. After the panel decided to clear me took about 5 days and my license was in the mail. I would have all character statements, proof of rehabilitation available with you when you go.

That’s great. Congratulations. We are still waiting for our panel appointment. Our investigator stated that a lot of people were out on vacation so she is done selecting the three but has to coordinate on everybody’s schedule. Do you think reaching out to the state senator will help expedite it? If so do you know who you reached out to and did you do it on Twitter?

So I looked up my state senator here https://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator

and there is a contact email there so I shot them an email, explained the situation and they emailed the department of ED directly and cc’d me. Since then I can tell my case has been streamlined, they probably flag it as a legislative inquiry can be very bad for their jobs. Learned this from years in the army, when you are getting treated really bad and something is taking too long, call your congressman. I was only told that hopefully I would have a panel in September but I’m trying to be optimistic

Well recently received an update that I will have my hearing scheduled for January. I have been waiting since March2021. I would go to answer any questions that they have.  Good luck with everything.

Good plan. There are people in every elected state office such as a State Senator that are getting paid to assist the people they represent. And frankly, they can hold on the phone all day.

Yes. that's why they are representatives on our local, state, national government!

Twitter? We are talking official communications that a state representative, senator uses for OFFICIAL channel communication. Frankly Twitter communications were in the news from 2016-2020 but that is an opinion channel.

Either call or write a formal letter for help on your license. Frankly a letter might be better as you really need to formulate your thoughts before sending it.  Get someone else to proof or reread it to see of you are actually saying what you want to say.

Feeling really depressed. Seeing all my nursing school friends working, sharing memes, making money. I can’t find joy in anything anymore. Considering looking for another career at this point. Was told it was gonna happen this month. Now being told essentially not to call anymore and just wait to be called. I this as a sort of redemption and though I had finally made it. Now it seems like it was for nothing and I’m just a waste. I don’t wanna socialize since everyone always asks. I just wanna lay in bed and cry most days. I hate this.

Im so sorry honey bun. I am too going through this with my fiance. It's been over a year and every month we are promised a “date is coming next week or this month” but that never happens. He hates the job he’s in and it physically takes a toll on his body. My fiance goes through these emotions too he has really low days and its been a rough journey.  We are at the end of it but decided to get a lawyer. I was able to get a free lawyer who has experIence with the board. It's a place that helps those who can’t afford it. we signed the retainer last week but we feel so much better that we were able to get her. She said she will prep him for the interview and accompany him. The BON is now saying all further contact will be directly through the lawyer, but at this point we’re at the end of the journey so it’s better to do it towards the end if you can. We are at the in person board hearing part of the process.  Will update everyone when things move again❤️ xo

Keep faith and don’t give up. I went through the emotions as well 14 months of stress and hated the job I was working but all I could do was wait. I would check in on a monthly basis through email and Managed my anxiety as best as I can. I hated talking to people and my classmates about not having my license as well I just started stating hey when it comes it comes I’ll let you know. When you do get your license you will cherish is more than anything considering you went through rough times to get it

Update: I got a call from an investigator supervisor stating my investigator was transferred calling my state legislative inquiry and that he was personally taking over my case. I had a panel date about two weeks after that just had the panel Friday. My application was accepted by the panel and got my license yesterday! You have to call your state senator and request they make an inquiry. It’s the only way these lazy state investigators will do anything. They don’t care about you. Only you care about you. Advocate for yourselves.

@healingpotion34 congratulations. I’m so happy you finally got through after this long process. I’m actually going through something similar like you and was hoping you can guide me on how you worded your request to the senator about your license. I have no friends going through similar emotions, thoughts, anxiety as you and I have and I would be so grateful for any advice because I too am loosing hope. Thank you
