what do you do with moochers? ;)

can you somehow submit your hw earlier than having to wait for class?

or if they ask you, what did you get on this, do like one poster said, "i found it on ch. 7 section 2, or just say that you don't remember." or, just like some other people have said, just say no, i know it's too blunt but it's the truth, you don"t want to share which is cheating. just say that you don't feel comfortable giving the answer, but next time she can go to the group meeting and do homework with y'all. tell them that you don't mind helping but you won't give them the answer.

haha yes we are doing that! gosh, it's silly..but our 3some is tired of everyone wanting to copy us. we are the top students for the class and don't mind a q here and there..but seriously? oh..and you know what they do if you direct them where to find it...(yeah they do not care)..they say " wait, well can i just look/borrow/use your sheet real quick to compare the answers?" you know dang well they didn't even do it!:imbar

I never asked the lady why she didn't give me the notes after she said she would. Who knows, maybe she just forgot. I do think it was inconsiderate though, looking at how many times she has approached me and my group to compare work.

Classic moocher! LOL. Some are more obvious than others. Those people just KILL me. How can we all be in the same program? I thought you had to be smart to get into that program..and the way they ask/act/etc. makes me wonder otherwise lol.

I'm not getting what's wrong with the direct approach and just telling people that they need to do their own work. I thought we were talking about adults, no?

Edit: Don't want a race debate lol

By playing into stereotypes, you're not doing anyone any favors. Give your classmates a little credit.

Another way of saying it is something like "Hey, you made it into nursing school, so you're no dummy. You can do your own work."....or something like that, said in a friendly, easy manner.

Thanks for trying to help, but it's obvious that you have not been in this situation. I hope you can take that in a way that doesn't seem as though I am trying to be rude to you. Believe me, though, I'm not one for stereotyping. Cities like this are an entirely different world. I don't expect many people to be able to relate. So I'll just stick to the "mooching" topic.

Well, I haven't lived under a rock my whole life. I understand the need for playing politics and having a feel for group dynamics. Your social survival skills are important in all aspects of your life. However, I stand by my previous statements.

Yes, sadly, I have discovered that the moochers can make the same high grades as the students who work their tails off. Another great reason to stop the mooching.... Next semester, we'll start fresh. I think you may be like me: nice, trying to help people out, maybe a little naiive (at least I think I was), about what they were doing. We have to learn too I suppose!

And I think that the mooching is how they got into the program in the place. Too bad they don't spend the time learning.

Just start telling people you are barely getting passing grades, then they won't want to copy off you :p

See, I feel like if I do that, I will create friction. Not because I care THAT much..but what if I'm absent and need to ask a Q, etc. I would look like a hypocrite asking them...not even to copy..but if they can tell me what I missed. We all know how that works! lol

If not continuously giving answers causes friction, so be it. They are the ones putting you in the situation, giving answers because you're concerned about friction feels almost like blackmail. I would only give answers that you feel good about...but honestly, why are you giving answers at all? If the HW is being turned in, giving someone else answers is cheating, if it's not turned in, then let them do their own work.

I can't imagine this is the only person in the class, if you need to ask a question ask another classmate, or the Prof.

Even as a tutor I don't just give answers away, it doesn't help the student.

Well, the funniest thing that I can remember regarding this issue is about a pair of students from the program that I had attended.

The first one was exceptionally smart, did exemplary work, but was socially clueless. The other was beautiful, on everyone's invite list, but didn't have two brain cells to rub together. They somehow found each other; Miss Brain Dead copied off of Miss Wallflower, and in return, took her to all the "in" events around campus. This academic symbiotic relationship continued through the entire program and both graduated with honors.

After the boards of course, the Homework Queen aced it and got a job right away in a local ICU. Miss Congeniality, on the other hand, went back to waitressing after failing the boards three times.

The morale of this story is, if they want to copy off you? LOL... Let them. Also, remember to leave them a big tip when they wait on your table years later ;)
