Monopolizing Classmates and how to handle them?

Nursing Students General Students

Currently our class consist of about 60 students. Out of the 60 about 6 of them always have something to say. Granted if they're knowledgeable about a topic I don't mind listening to them but sometimes they go on and on about other subjects such as their personal lives, military careers and so on and so on.

It's getting to the point that everytime they have something to say I look for an escape route. I'm getting frustrated having to listen to the same 6 people over and over again. Some of the other students hardly have a chance to participate because by the time the other's stop talking class is over.

Sometimes it seems as if they're more interested in hearing themselves speak as oppossed to making meaningful contributions regarding the topic.

What would you do in a situation like this other than mention it to the instructors?

FYI: From what I understand you're not considered a professional until after "graduation" so that makes them "students" not professionals nor teachers.

Did you mean "jealousy"? Since "jealosy" is not a word.

Additionally, here's a site that may come in handy in the future http://www.dictionary.com. :)

You sure we're not all ln the same class? lol Yep I do believe there's one...erm at least two....even more in every class. I suffer thru this everyday. The ones that pipe in with their experiences and chit chat with their fellow student. Soooo annoying and disrespectful. I could go on but I think you get the idea from all of your experiences as well.

This is totally off topic, but I gotta know--LPN2B2004--what the HE** is that creature that is displayed as your avatar? With the cute little pink tongue? Is it a ferret? Never seen one before, but whatever it is-awwwwwwww!!!! It's soooooo cute!

Being annoying? :p :D ......i don't think it's jealousy....

"it's just plain annoying" :D :D

Theres always a few inappropriate people in class who are self centered ie.., always thinking and talking about themselves. I went to ns school with one who was like that. By the end of the 3 years everyone knew all about her grandma inside and out (literally)! Even reprimand from the instructors didnt help. Then there are those that have the disease or had the specific disease that is being discussed.

Tell them to sit down and shut up so that the rest of the class can learn! :)

I think the instructor could nip it if she/he started out the lecture with "Please hold all questions and comments until after we get through the material- we have a lot to cover today". Then gently remind the buttinsky's to hold their questions. This way class could be over to those who got the material and they could leave, whild others could stay with their questions and comments after class. Just a suggestion.

Shouldn't HAVE to tell adults to be quiet.

I had one particular guy who was the most annoying but actually didn't realize it. He was the husband of a friend of mine. About 5 of us took him aside outside of class and told him how annoying he was being. He was surprised, apologized and stopped.

I think the instructors need to nip this in the bud when it starts.

Another thing that bugged me, which I've mentioned before, is when students start packing up their backpacks, shuffling papers into notebooks, etc., 5 minutes before class ends distracting everyone from what the instructor is saying. That is just plain rude to the instructor and the other students.
