Currently our class consist of about 60 students. Out of the 60 about 6 of them always have something to say. Granted if they're knowledgeable about a topic I don't mind listening to them but sometimes they go on and on about other subjects such as their personal lives, military careers and so on and so on.
It's getting to the point that everytime they have something to say I look for an escape route. I'm getting frustrated having to listen to the same 6 people over and over again. Some of the other students hardly have a chance to participate because by the time the other's stop talking class is over.
Sometimes it seems as if they're more interested in hearing themselves speak as oppossed to making meaningful contributions regarding the topic.
What would you do in a situation like this other than mention it to the instructors?
I would almost appreciate the one that i refered to as "Band Camp" if a) she didn't interrupt other people while enlightening people with her adventures b) she didn't have to tell a story for every single disorder/disease that we discuss, and c) if someone hadn't caught her in a lie about two of her jobs.

Ok, that does sound a little over the top. Interrupting does demonstrate a lack of respect for others.
Reminds me of a gal in my class who worked as a unit secretary in a NICU. She thought she was a pediatrician or something.
There was a guy in my class last year that was an orderly at the local hospital. The way he talked, you'd think that place would just crumble without him. Go figure when i got a job in the same place, it was a whole different story. Mainly a lot of stories of turning off his pager and taking naps in the housekeeper's breakrom on the clock.
Yep, I have the same problem. One woman in particular...who can monopolize the entire class discussion if she wants.
One of our teachers won't allow it. She tells these 4 or 5 students who talk too much..."you've already had you're turn, let someone else talk", or when this one woman is going on and on about whatever she thinks is sooo important..the teacher won't say anything and she'll look away and then change the subject.
I would maybe leave a note with the teacher, or just tell her. You're there to listen to your professor the majority of the time, and discussion is great, but not when someone monopolizes the lecture and hurts your learning experience.
But, when it gets to the point where it messes up with the lecture, it's too far! I've had that happen, I wish some people knew how extremely rude they are.

Yeppers, don't they just drive you nuts? I had clinicals today with a woman who lives 3 hours away from school. Two of the girls were talking, one said she didn't know anyone from this town and the lady says, well, you are not missing much! Well, hello, but you live 3 hours away from here! Either you know everything, or that is just a not-so-subtle insult to everyone that lives here! Her and another girl are constantly "Sharing" everything with the class. It is kind of interesting actually, no one besides them has ever made me want to stick chewed bubble gum in my ears yet.:roll
