Monitoring and had a pETh test 5.5 days ago

Published

I drank 2 shots (mini bottles) Friday and took a pETH test the following Thursday. I had not drank before. I didn't know or think about a pETh test. Huge mistake. It's been 3 days and no result yet. Any chance of passing? I know I risked a lot I just didn't think about it showing up for as long a pETh monitors. Thanks

I think your referring to etg for 500

The range of PEth test results is typically categorized as light or no consumption, significant consumption, and heavy consumption:

Significant consumption

20–200 ng/mL, which is consistent with drinking two to four drinks per day for several days

Heavy consumption

More than 200 ng/mL, which is consistent with drinking more than four drinks per day for several days

Light or no consumption

Less than 20 ng/mL, which is consistent with not drinking or drinking less than two drinks per day for several days

Oops.  You're correct.  Sorry about that.

ThSt is that's very interesting. I have a feeling the NJ program has an even stricter number. They do not believe in incidental exposure

Gasoline  has Ethanol. Pumping gas,  breathing gas fumes, eating ripe fruit, etc. We're unlikely to have a 0 result.  I always get gas after I know I don't have to test .

We all get incidental exposure whether NJ believes In it or not.

I doubt it's below 20ng for peth.  Some lab studies have used 10ng has a cutoff, but even medical communities don't agree to use anything less than 20ng cutoff for substance use detection - even monitoring agencies.

When monitoring agencies say they don't believe in "incidental exposure," it usually means that if you test positive above the cutoff, it doesn't matter what excuse you use.  You are going back to rehab and/or monitoring length extended.   Excuses range from "I used alcoholic mouthwash last night" or "I use hand sanitizer everyday at work" or "I just drank fruit juice at a party" etc etc.  Doesn't matter what you say, it's a done deal.

So for medical monitoring agencies, peth cutoff is 20ng, and urine ETG is 100ng and sometimes that's combined with urine ETS (ethyl sulfate) and the ETS cutoff is 25ng.

It's specific for ethanol.  Hand sanitizer has ethanol?

Hand sanitizer is 60% ethanol or 70% isopropyl alcohol.  Doesn't matter though, hand sanitizer is a frequent excuse used when people's urine etg or even peth tests come back positive.  It's an even worse excuse for Peth because peth is only generated for alcohol that is CONSUMED.

Hello everyone:

I submitted the peth test on Friday. Today on Monday, still it is showing, received at lab, No result. What is the usual turn around time for peth test?

Also can anyone tell what to tell if it comes back positive? truth or some make up lame stuff? anybody has any experience?

I am stress out as online it is showing that it would be positive if consumed more than 7 drinks in the past 28 day. I consumed 10 drinks in 2 weeks before the test, so seems like it will be positive given its sensitivity. I want to be prepared for this news.

Oh, I'm not supposed to eat xyz. I fear a false positive. I haven't and won't take anything I'm not allowed but it seems this is sometimes accepted instead of I don't know.  I'd try this if it were me. If you would have let them know about your 'relapse" it may have gone better but too late now.  If they show no mercy at least you tried.

What is a Peth test?

Always best to tell the truth. No matter what, while you are in a monitoring program, you must stay clean from any and all forms of  alcohol or drugs. They will find out! It's too much work to cheat the tests. Much easier to just stay clean. You'll find it's a great way of life

Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is a mid-to-long-term alcohol biomarker created in red blood cells, where it exists as part of the cell membrane. PEth may be detected in blood for up to approximately 2-4 weeks. However, there may be isolated circumstances where PEth may be detected at 6 weeks or more.
