Suboxone
WOW thank you so much for all of this information! I didn't realize that gabapentin will be a controlled med soon in most states! As of now, mine allows it and I have 11 months left of monitoring so I'm not super worried about it at this time because by the time it's controlled I'll be done. That being said-the plan is to hopefully be off of it soon. I will also be going in for injections which I pray help. I have severe degenerative disc disease with protruding discs. I am willing to try anything at this point and I honestly don't want opiates at all which is why they offered the suboxone. I've been very forth coming with my addiction so that I can make sure I am staying clean and sober. I have 670 days clean and will make sure to protect that at all costs. I really appreciate all of this information because it does make my choice to stop gabapentin easier! As of now my state doesn't test for it-I've been on it a few months now and I've had normal UAs. I also sent my monitor all of the meds I've started but because they aren't controlled they don't do anything with that info. But I just want to be honest with them and doctors. Back pain is the worst thing I've ever had happen-I am really hoping injections are the answer to getting relief because I'd love to cut off the gaba completely and use Motrin when needed

Suboxone
That's unfortunate because I was told I can be on it while in monitoring when I got access to controlled meds. At that time I chose not to take it because I had over a year in recovery. As far as gabapentin I'm allowed that too since it's not a controlled med and it's legally prescribed to me. So sorry your state is that way. Can I ask why being on gabapentin would stop your time in monitoring? It does take away the nerve pain but it doesn't make me feel impaired.

Suboxone
Any nurses on suboxone while in recovery? If so do you plan to get off? So I was offered it for some pretty severe back pain and the fact that I am an addict in recovery. Not sure I want to go that route-gabapentin works but I do lose my words which I hate

NP school while on probation
My state BON does not allow higher education while on probation. It is apart of the stipulations set forth by them. There's no getting around it here because you sign the contract stating you will not enroll in higher education programs-nothing to do with the actual school in my state.

NP school while on probation
You probably won't v able to be able to. Almost all states don't allow higher education because they require clinical hours

Checking test results?
Yeah saying no offense is actually offensive when you say it's illegal for me to have anything to do with it. Because I am not tampering or doing anything with my specimen. I actually LOVE seeing the negative results because it's just proof to MYSELF that I am doing well. I like to make sure it's arrived by checking and seeing the "negative, normal" results. And if that offends anyone I really don't care LOL. But don't come at me with how I'm doing something illegal when I'm not. I've worked damn hard at my sobriety so SUE me for liking to check the results and that it arrived! But never come at me for doing something wrong. My case worker with the board of nursing is nicer than some of the people here.

Checking test results?
I check just to make sure it got there and tested. I haven't used anything or drank alcohol so I'm not worried about that- more so afraid the urine will get lost LOL

Test result out of range?
I did email her and asked if she wanted me to go test again today-waiting on a response. I'm more than willing to do hair though! Well that is terrifying to be .1 off! I'm waiting to hear back. I did offer to go test again. I'm just so confused on why it happened other than it wasn't my first pee of the day. But I really don't think that should matter but maybe it did? it sucks being terrified of this when you KNOW you've been compliant and not doing anything. I can't wait to be done in 16 months!

Test result out of range?
Hello, I've been testing regularly since July 2024 with my recovery facility and since feb 2025 with the BON. Out of maybe 50+ tests now I've gotten a "test out of range" result. Normally I go and test first thing in the morning so it's my first pee and not dilute. This time I went after peeing a few times because I didn't super hydrate. My urine was light yellow at the time of collection. What does this mean?! Should I go pay to retake it again? I'm not sure what to expect because they've always been normal/negative and I'm not using anything.

Surgery in monitoring
So I didn't have surgery but I had a raging kidney infection that they almost admitted me for. Thankfully they let me go home with the caveat that's I'd come back if things worsened. Anyways prior to discharge the doctor gave me 5mg of oxy. I sent in the discharge paperwork and proof to my case manager and it was uploaded into the app. I had no issues at all with it. And if I remember correctly, I tested like 1.5-2 weeks after so there were no issues there either. I didn't have any "return to work" guidelines but I'm assuming a one time dose isn't a huge deal to them. And I had like 5 days off following that anyways.

How to handle job until off probation
Also, nobody had even known I was on probation but the nurses on that shift look up every new nurse that comes into the unit to see if there's anything wrong with them. Like WTH ?

How to handle job until off probation
I had a coworker print and read my stipulations at the nurses station and then tell everyone at work what I did. She then questioned my manager about passing meds because they assumed I couldn't pass any meds. I reported her to the BON. I loved the unit but I couldn't handle the coworkers who treated me like I was some broken thing that had to do whatever they wanted because it was a second chance. It's funny I felt like I deserved it at first but really, I didn't realize how bad it was until I left and don't have the same anxiety.

SNF vs dialysis
Oh I promise I wouldn't judge a company based on others experiences. I have enough work experience to realize everywhere has its issues! I was more curious if people would suggest a SNF or dialysis to finish out their probation. I ultimately went with Fresenius because when I went to the interview and shadowed I felt super comfortable and like I was at "home" if that makes sense. As an RN I've worked in one specialty my whole career, so going to chronic care is kind of intimidating. However prior to being a RN I worked with elderly patients for 5-6 years as a caregiver then an LPN. It just felt like going back to my roots. It is kind of sad leaving my specialty because I LOVE what I did, but I need a fresh start where the whole unit isn't reminding me of what I did wrong constantly. We punish ourselves enough I don't need outsiders doing it too. Maybe once my probation is over I'll go back to women's health but for now I just need to finish the last 16 months strong.

SNF vs dialysis
Thank you! I went with Fresenius! At the interview I just felt like it was somewhere that I'll be comfortable and welcomed into. At the hospital a nurse read my stipulations to the whole unit and it became super toxic. At Fresenius, they told me nobody would know except the three monitors I'll have and that they have had other probation nurses and it never gets out. I thought I deserved the humiliation of my stipulations being put on blast, but I'm realizing that is so wrong and not true. A nurse at the hospital loudly told me multiple times "you F*cked up now you have to pay the consequences" in front of the nurses station. I'm so thankful that Fresenius seems to know that there's no reason to blast a nurse for our past mistakes.

SNF vs dialysis
I have 16 more months of probation and need a new job. Waiting to hear back from an office nursing job as well as a brand new recovery center opening near me(this is my ultimate goal but IDK if they can accommodate me at this time being brand new) However I have two options at a SNF and fresenius. If I can't get either the recovery or office nursing position, which would you suggest to be able to complete my 16 months? Unfortunately lost my job not due to anything nursing care related so having to job hunt sucks?
