As a nurse, what is your first reaction as you hear those words?
Updated:
We have all seen on the news the terrible scene that played out in the streets in Minnesota when George Floyd, an unarmed 46-year-old black male, was arrested by the Minnesota Police for attempted forgery at a convenience store. The action was caught on video as George Floyd, handcuffed and pinned to the ground face down by an officer who pressed with his full weight with his knee on Mr. Floyd's neck for more than 8 minutes. We watched and heard George Floyd crying out that he couldn't breathe. We heard him calling for "Mama". We watched as his body went limp with the officer still holding him down. This will be a scene I shall never forget.
The following are quotes from the Minnesota Nurses Association's response to this heinous crime.
QuoteAs nurses, we see the horrific effects of racism in our hospitals and community every day. We cannot remain silent as yet another black man has died at the hands of police...
QuoteGeorge Floyd's last words were "I can't breathe.” George Floyd died shortly after arriving at the hospital."
Nurses jump into action when they hear someone say "I can't breathe", instead of standing there watching them die. Their goal is to save lives, not kill people
QuoteIn the case of George Floyd, Minneapolis Police took no care or life-saving measures. Instead, they left him pinned down to the ground until paramedics arrived. Police ignored the pleas of George Floyd and he died.
Nurses care for all patients, regardless of their gender, race, religion or other status. We expect the same from the police. Unfortunately, nurses continue to see the devastating effects of systematic racism and oppression targeting people of color in our communities. We demand justice for George Floyd and a stop to the unnecessary death of black men at the hands of those who should protect them.
As a nurse, or as a compassionate human, how has this horrific event affected you? We have seen protests (some peaceful and some that have erupted into riots), vandalism, looting, and more. What is going on in your community? What actions can nurses take?
Let us stand together and let our voices be heard. Post your comments below.

It's his supporters who did that! They are the ones who encouraged him and reinforced his despicable behaviors and it's a TOTAL REFLECTION of what they feel people should behave like! After all, if you ask someone for the recipe, it must mean that you liked the meal? So if that's who you people aspire to be, well? What else can I say?
So I know this is off topic but seriously why are you and other liberals so obsessed with Trump. You do know he is out of the WH don't you?
Maybe it would be better to focus on the current WH and address some of the things they are doing.
Like maybe...
High taxes
Supreme Court packing
DC and Puerto Rico statehood
Crisis at the border
Trillions dollar (fake) covid bill
Trillions dollar (fake) infrastructure bill
Gun control legislation
(Just to name a few)
Sounds like there might be a few better things to worry about than the continued Trump bashing. You know...all these existential and constitutional crisis'.

Nobody should hate for any of those reasons but we should not be stoking any of those fires but that is exactly what some media and Dems are doing. Of course our Country has a hx of racism but the Country has worked hard to fix/overcome that. It is not interwoven into institutions, yeah there are still racist people but that goes across the board in all directions.
The article you linked is a good example of one written by some woke-ist. Good hx lesson but lost me with the current examples of police discrimination. The writer proved my earlier point about media/politicians using a police event to immediately blame police and call them racists, but even worse this article/writer is still using some of them (as victims of police racism) even after the facts have come out. This does zero to prove (current) systemic racism and is very disturbing. Not to mention how much damage was caused by the ensuing riots both in property and human damage!

The problem will never be solved until people can have legit conversations with legit facts (vs media/political spin)

From Aero;
Quoteif one assumes police simply stop whomever they want for no particular reason, there seem to be large racial differences. If one assumes they are trying to prevent violent crimes, then evidence for bias is exceedingly small.
Is it more likely that blacks will commit more violent crimes than whites? Do police believe blacks driving down the road might be more likely to be criminals?
Here's the whole passage:
QuoteCompare and contrast the statements below. The first is from the Roland Fryer study mentioned above. The second is from historian Ibram X. Kendi, director of The Antiracist Research and Policy Center, in response to a study published in the New York Times, purportedly analyzing the effects of racism on black life outcomes:
Fryer: A simple count of the number of police shootings that occur does little to explore whether racial differences in the frequency of officer-involved shootings are due to police malfeasance or differences in suspect behavior … Put simply, if one assumes police simply stop whomever they want for no particular reason, there seem to be large racial differences. If one assumes they are trying to prevent violent crimes, then evidence for bias is exceedingly small.
Kendi: As an anti-racist, when I see racial disparities, I see racism. But I know for many racist Americans, when they see racial disparities they see black inferiority.
QuoteThere is a radical difference in mindset here. Fryer shows an open-mindedness and willingness to adjust his perspective based on data and reason; Kendi relies on confirmation bias and will castigate anyone who proposes alternative explanations as a racist. The latter mindset has poisoned public discourse and led to the maltreatment of many good men and women. It must be fervently opposed by those who value rationality over dogma.
The author of the article thinks that the quoted content was evidence of "open minded" thinking.

Trump was the racist in Chief for 4 long and difficult years. Membership in white supremacy hate groups grew during the Trump presidency. Trump still inspires the many racists who identify with current republican politics. Maybe you haven't noticed that they are making noise about some very unamerican ideologies based upon a really big lie that Trump continues to elevate and amplify.

Listen the black communities show I'm right. Racism isn't the cause of all of black peoples problems or even the majority of them. It's black people that are mostly responsible. Even if white people decided to stop being racist, the small percentage that are, it won't change black peoples plight overall. Look at the major cities where blk people live in mass, destruction, destruction, destruction.

Another racist premise for a comment.

Well, I think that most people who actually read the article will be able to keep it in context and comprehend what the author is trying to convey.

That's it? That's the explanation? Are you saying that I didn't read the article? Based upon what evidence?
What was the the intended message of that quoted section, in your view?

Again, Trump isn't is the WH nor controlling policies.
SPLC is itself a hate/liberal group. Difference between (true) white supremacists and BLM/antifa is that the (true) white supremacists are being held accountable for their actions (as they should).
Do you really think that BLM is helping everyday American black people?

It is the Democrat policies that are the problem in the inner cities that are causing the poverty and crime.
