Sorry for the tacky question, but I'm curious: What is your salary? How many years have you been working as an RN? What MO city do you live in? What area do you work in? Thanks!
Well I just graduated and interview with several positions around the KC area. The average pay is $20 base. Truman is 20.50, 3.50 night, 1.00 weekend; KU is 21.50, 5.65 night, 2.00 weekends; HCA's are 19.65, 2.00 evening, 3.00 night, 2.00 weekend. Children's mercy I cant remember but it was 21.?? base. These are all new grad starting rates so I have no idea for nurses with exp.
HCA's are now $20.40, with $3.00 nights, $2.00 weekends. I attend Research College of Nursing and was told this by HR and nursing recuriter who attended our class. They are planning to increase base pay to at least $1.00 by next May, in time for the 2009 grads. This is at Research and I currently work at Lee's Summit Medical Center as a Nurse Intern and it's the same pay there. Most of the HCA's are about the same in pay, expect Centerpoint, which is about $19 and some change. HCA is also going to adopt the Clinical Ladder pay scale too.
The last nursing home I worked at paid me $19.68/hr. and that was with 16 years of experience in geriatrics. I just interviewed for a PRN job with Corrections and would start at $25/hr. with evening and night shift differentials I think around $2 (I can't remember what exactly she quoted me).
A base nursing home RN/DON starts at $50k/year for ADN's as well as higher degrees.
We live 2 hours north of Kansas City. We just bought a house 2 years ago with 4-5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms and 2 acres of land for $134k. Cost of living here is very cheap.
Blessings, Michelle
I've been looking into MO and am shocked not only at the pay..but at how little the increase is for experience. I talked to a recruiter today who told me new RN's start at $17.45 and with 1 yr experience in ICU I could expect $17.80. I've been at my current job 10 months. I've already had a .96 raise and will get another one when I hit 1 year. (MN)- unfortunately it's cold and I don't want to be here.
Missouri pay is low, BUT so is the cost of living. You can buy a nice house under 100K and gas right now is $1.45/gal. Weigh the factors. I am from NY and LOVE Missouri.

Not a dumb question- I graduated and just passed boards, and I need clarification on sooo many things still. One day you won't be a nursing student and you'll be a nurse who other people go to.
