  1. Well they actually do have case workers for Peds out of Illinois close to Chicago. I talked to a manager from that city when I was training an office. I would suggest studying and getting your CCM. There are also triage lines for pediatrics in different cities also.
  2. UHC has a hiring freeze but they do need pediatric case managers. They are out of Lisle Il near Chicago. Not sure if you can work from home but I know someone doing Perinatal care from home.
  3. Humana sounds like Healthways but at home. United is starting to have the call center attitude you were referring to. Caseloads you can't possibly contact.
  4. cm=case management
  5. No $30/hr jobs when I worked in the hospital 3 years ago I left at 27/hr and had 25 years of experience.
  6. CM 33/hr days
  7. Hi, I know many nurses who use to work at AH. They said it was like a nurse sweatshop where you literally only had 3 minutes to go to the bathroom. Phone calls were timed. By the time the caller got their meds to review the time was up. Many of these nurses moved to DM at an insurance company. I interviewed there and thought there were "red flags". The nurse interviewing me was very nice and I had actually worked with her years ago. I thought there starting salary was low. They said there were days open but you would find out after you started. Pretty much a "bait and switch" promising days no Saturdays but really it is either every Saturday or all evenings. No flexibility and everyone does the same thing. Yes you could get bored fast. But if you want to get your foot in the door and get experience in this area it is a good starting point.
  8. Missouri now has NP's at Walgreens. They also have advertised to do the physicals for school.
  9. IF insurance companies would reimburse these facilities for disease management this would be a good way for diabetics to get their foot care, a1c drawn ect.. when they were getting their prescriptions filled.
  10. I live in St. Louis, maybe I should be bottling beer. Might be less stressful. I never heard about this strike.
  11. 11% raise? Thats huge! I always got 3% and at my current newer job I got 5% which is unheard of. I think they are greedy. As for floating...I do not agree with floating from floors to ER or units otherwise floating is acceptable if you have had orientation to that floor.
  12. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=shillings+test click on the link to find more info
  13. First of all learn to google searches: Here is some info for you: Shillings test: In the past, the Shilling's test was advocated as a method of determining whether oral vs nasal or intramuscular B12 supplementation will be required. In the Shillings test it can be determined whether or not oral B12 is absorbable using a radioassay. One microgram of radioactive B12 is given by mouth. One hour later, 1 mg of non-radioactive B12 is given as a "flushing dose", to prevent further absorption. Radioactive B12 is counted in the blood and urine. The test can be also done with the addition of intrinsic factor, pancreatic extract, and after therapeutic attempts to improve absorption (such as gluten free diet, use of antibiotics). The Shillings test is somewhat expensive and inconvenient. Recently there has been a shortage of the needed radioisotope (2004). The clinical benefit of the Shillings test is also sometimes difficult to follow. Some authors advocate simply providing B12 to the patient via an oral or nasal route, and then retesting the patient after a few months as a simpler and more direct method of determining whether shots will be needed.
  14. its shilling. its been years since i have been in nursing school will look it up and see what i can find.
  15. What nursing association is in your state or town you can discuss this with? If they are going to force you I would not want to work for that employer anymore. Not sure about the laws where you live if there are any protections for you.
