    Contract Buy Out

Hello, I am a contracted agency nurse and I signed a 16 week contract that ends in the middle of August. I have been working for the the hospital and love it! However, the only other hospital in this particular hospital system closed and now they have canceled ALL agency. Do they legally have to pay me all the hours my contracted was for? Brandie

If the hospital breaks the contract, do they have to pay me the rest of the contract?

    Sleeping on lunch break

I was working night shift (12 hr) as an agency nursing half way through my 4-week contract. Around 4:45am in the morning, I told the other nurse I was working with that I was going on break. After that I walked into the chapel in the hospital and rested my head with my eyes closed. I had my phone alarm set from exactly 20 min. After 10 minutes after I got to the chapel, the nursing supervisor told me that they have a no sleeping policy and after my shift I would not be welcomed back. I then preceded to tell her I was on lunch break and she informed that it did not matter. Is this legal? Could I have said I was praying or meditating? I was in the in between state of relaxing and de-stressing, although it would have appeared to an outsider of sleeping! Any insight would be helpful

    Facebook or Blackboard SNA

Hello, I have just been in charge to "advise" the SNA. I have decided NOT to put post ANYTHING formal on facebook for 2 reasons- 1) I would have to "friend" the students, and i like to keep seperate boundaries 2) not all students have facebook Also, does anybody have suggestions how to get students involved or activities we can do? I am new to this. Thanks, Brandie

"You cannot have BSN or MSN on your nametag?"

Hello, My supervisor told me tonight that HR was getting complaints from patients stating, "The BSN nurse gave better care than the non-BSN nurse." End result, only RN will go on namebadge. I do not want to debate whether BSN nurses are better or worse. What I would like feedback on is: 1.) Can a hospital legally take away your title of RN, BSN or RN MSN, etc.? 2.) I personally feel that is a "slap" in the face and demoralizes nursing and education! Am I the only one who feels like this?

    30K in 16 weeks

Hello, I am a poor nursing instructor!! I planned to pick up agency during Christmas break, however, over in the Midwest, travel nursing is not picking up. I will have another break in May for 16 weeks- my plan is to go to California and work approx 60 hours a week! Is it possible to BRING HOME AFTER TAXES 30K? How can I get the most pay? I do need housing, no benefits... Thanks, Brandie

Job you would NEVER do in nursing....

I could do any nursing in the hospital, however, psych and ER are my favorite!! I could not do insurance companies...I think they are the devil!! I love that nurses have the flexibility to change without change careers!! :yeah:

Why can't I find an LPN job?

because hospitals do not want to pay LPNs so they hire less qualified techs who get a two week training course!! its a shame...bring back the LPN!!

    Professions before nursing

Hey just out of curiousity, what did you guys did before nursing? 1.) high school jobs: worked as McDonalds/Pizza Hut, started nursing school straight from high school!

    texting at work

Who cares? It is their license!! I personally text when appropriate, never in a patient's room or seen by staff, patients or families....but why let it bother you so much? That just causes more friction between co-workers...and to all those complaining...have you ever confronted the nurse themselves?? I think texting is just another "behavior" that needs to be done in moderation and appropriateness!! My grandma pulled her foley out, got out of bed fell and died and the "40 ish" year old nurse was NOT texting but on a smoke break!!!

advice how to make change from days to night shift

I do both nights and days, because I do agency and I go where the needs are. When I started doing more nights, I get off and settles by 8am, usually wake up naturally at 12, do some chores if needed and nap from 3-6p. If I am off the next night, skip my nap to ensure that I sleep. I have no problems staying awake or falling asleep usually. if I am completely exhausted, and cannot keep my eyes open, I just go to bathroom, set my phone alarm and take a 5-10 min snooze. Out of 8 years of nursing, I have done this mabey 5 times. It is enough to give the 2nd wind!! 3-5am are the worse times!! Oh---another tip I learned was to put aluminum foil on your bedroom windows....it may be bright and sunny at 12noon and it is dark as night in my bedroom!! Good luck, Brandie:yawn:
