Missionary as an LVN or RN?

hi. i am a missionary for short term trips, planning to eventually move to africa permanently. i am looking into nursing schools, and was thinking about pursuing schooling as an lvn. it seems like most advise me to go for an rn, but considering my pursuit is not focused solely on making great money, i'm looking for some input as to what route is best, and reasons why. i'd rather not do 4 years, but if it's truly worth it, than i may. please also tell me what schools are recommended and why in the orange county, california area.

Do you know whom you will be doing this mission with? There are some that require RNs only and with a BSN at that.

Hi - I'm an RN and do short-term missions.

From my experience, RN's are preferred because of the things we do. I need to be able to have the experience to handle emergencies, start IV's, know how to handle heart attacks, etc. All the things within the scope of practice of an RN.

Go for the RN. The assessment abilities will be critical.

Definately go for the RN. At the very least a ADN program.

The RN, especially BSN, will give you exposure to wider areas, opportunities, research (so you can later find stuff you need specifically for the unusual situations you may find yourself in), commnity health, also training in how to teach, lead or manage groups, etc.

I agree, the RN will give you a wider knowledge base. Consult with the organization that will sponsor you.
