Military spouses can get $6000 for school

Military spouses are being allotted a free $6,000.00 in tuition for almost any career/schooling. If the spouse's husband is active military (have to be deployed if reserve or guard) then the spouse should be eligible.

With Congressional authorization set forth in Public Law 110-417, the Department of Defense is expanding the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts – MyCAA – for military spouses of active duty and activated Guard and Reserve Service members worldwide.

MyCAA is currently completing an extensive testing period with the help of volunteer spouses, schools and other payees. Final administrative processes are now being put into place. MyCAA is preparing to officially open its doors for eligible military spouses worldwide to receive up to $6,000 of financial assistance to help pay for licenses, certifications and education in high growth, high demand portable career fields.

What is a Portable Career?

Portable careers are those that are likely to provide job opportunities in most locations where military Service members are stationed. These might include but are not limited to: business/management, construction trades, education, financial services, health services, homeland security, hospitality management, human resources, information technology, real estate, etc.

Visit the Career One Stop Web site to take self-assessments, analyze your skills, and explore careers and industries. Find your local One-Stop Center by entering your zip code into the Service Locator. Visit the Career Voyages Web site for information on in-demand occupations and high growth industries.

Is this strictly for undergrad degrees/certifications? My DH is going to go back to get a degree in finance once I'm AD in San Antonio and this would be a huge help for that.

I am a 4th semester Nursing student and I graduate in December. I recently got approved for the My Career Advancement Account and wish to use part of it to pay for my licensure examination fee (NCLEX) and state board fee. I was wondering if anyone here has ever used it for such and if so, how did you do it or what is the name of the organization/school that I put this under? I can't find NCLEX or National Council for State Board of Nursing (NCSBN) or even the state board of nursing that I want to get my license in (AZ State Board of Nursing). I typed in every possible name related to these organizations but I can't find it.I saw teacher certifications and even Physical and Massage Therapy licensure examinations in there but none for nursing.

I called up Military Onesource and was told that if it is not in the drop down list then I would have to invite them to join - send the packet and letter, etc. But I'm thinking that someone somewhere must have done this before. If not, I guess I would have to start the ball rolling which will take at least 90 days (too long a wait to take test but I guess good for the future "generations"). Help!
