  1. I would start the job, and may be seek the possibility of transfer within the hospital system. The military life offers no guarantees and having some experience in this job market can only be a plus. This will help build your confidence when going to an unfamiliar area.
  2. Have you considered other areas of nursing m/s, neuro, to just get in the hospital and perhaps transfer to OR or cardiac tele floor.
  3. Hi, Well how did you do on the test, I know you passed, please tell me the level of difficulty and how did you study.
  4. Hi, I am also thinking about taking it in December or early Jan of this year pick ancc because it is given several times a year. I will be coming from over seas and in the states on vacation. What are some online sites to prep for the test? thanks in advance.
  5. Hi, I am also a nurse but I am currently working on BSN one class to go but will have to wait until I return to the states next year. The skills you are using will come in handy because it is still experience. Do you know the next assignment location, google local hospitals send in resume before leaving and also what area of nursing do you want to work in. Start to tailor the resume for the floor your interested in ex. med/surg all age groups if you can show flexibility and perform well under pressure highlight this. military spouse also
  6. Hi, Have you contacted your state BON to see what they recommend or the requirements to take the test at this time.
  7. congrats, I hope to be able to say this also
  8. Hey I found the list I made when I graduated from nursing school twelve years ago. 1. pay off my credit cards did that three times and they still have balances bigger then when I graduate, 2. save up 5,000 have gotten close but had baby and went back to school ,moved three times etc. The last thing was to have a BSN in five years still working on it. So as long as we try we can acheive the goal. hang in their time will pass and the dream will be realized.
  9. thank you will look in to this program.
  10. I would definitely keep the med/surg book I often need to look up stuff or just jog my memory. Keep the lab book also, the drug book a new one comes out every year and new, ways of administering old drugs so it would be a good idea to just rent a drug reference book, also sometimes pharmacy has the latest updates/warnings. But if your still in school buy the drug book.
  11. hug no advice but a job will come it is just the tight market, you will use your ADN, flu season is coming and who knows how that may effect the climate of jobs.
  12. Since he is sober at this time do the locally run shelters off out pt services. Has he ever been in the Arm Forces they also offer the services as long as the cleint is sober. Lately a lot of the out pt clinics have been hit by budget cuts so the needy and deserving are left out. Has he applied for disability ,might get coverage with them
  13. Hi, I went the route of ADN it was easier and faster, I am a military spouse and I have moved since graduating in 1997 six times. I have tried to finish a BSN to no avail, it would have allowed me to get a couple of very nice jobs in the govenment sector. I am one class from completion but cannot find a preceptor I am overseas and most BSN nurses are either deployed or technicians are used to perform those jobs, the base only has a clinic and going off base isnot feasible because of language barrier, and the preceptor has to have BSN. So a BSN would have made my life so much easier and happier. Education is never a waste of money. sheila
  14. Hi, I have worked nights for 8 years and this usually works for me is a fan at night/day time. The kids are at day care and on on my first night off I stay up may be an extra hour and get up early about 3pm. I have to walk 2-3 miles 4 days a week. I am over weight but the walking decreases stress and has increase my stamina at work. I am a stress eater so when my night blows so does my food in take. Hope this helps Sheila
  15. The CNA"s usually gave report to each other, but If it was a new assignment I would give heads up on the confused, bed alarms and 24 hour urines , need for stool, and fluid restrictions and diets. It also depends on the CNA some have so many patients,I once worked were the CNA"s had a load of 24 and nurse had eight pt a piece so she only took vitals passed water and ice and occasionally answered lights. But the CNA's should be able to give report to each other. just my:twocents:
