Midwestern State Fall 2015

Published

Hey everyone! I've become interested in applying for MWSU for Fall 2015, but I have yet to see any threads about it so I decided to start one myself! Could anyone help me with their point system?

@angieperry no problem, but would still meet up with so she explains better coz am a bit confused myself. And on d website is a bit contradicting. Also if its only 15pts for all pereqs and core, why did she then tell me the max a student can get is 86 pts in total? Like how can a student get that? Dosent really make sense to me at all. Plus there are 21 total pereqs and core, and it says on d website one point for each above 2.5.. everything is confusing to me, would call her after d break, and still see her in feb so she calculate for me, and get all my questions answered. Did she tell you your points or have u figured it out?

Yeah I am glad about that, it end like a little over a week before the deadline so I have a week to get down there! Yeah I am the kind of person that needs face-to-face communication lol. Yeah Idk how you could get 86 thats a bit much, I dont think thats possible. I think that means that you cumlative gpa of all the 21 preregs/core added together, like the total gpa of all your classes minus 2.5, then you get 1 point of each .10 your gpa is over 2.5. So like if your cumulative gpa is 4.0, you do 4.0-2.5=1.5 then 1.5/.10=15 maximum points is what my friend explained to me, i just asked her because I was so confused, because she applied to the nursing program for spring 2015 and CR explained it to her too.

Im just so ready for it to be March lol its crazy! And I also sent a request to be added to the group

I have 74 points. All classes done. 2 point for each of the 21 classes, I get 42. 1 point each for the 10 nursing prerequisites, I get 10 for that. Point 1 for a previous bachelors degree. 1 point for every .10 over 2.5, my cumulative GPA is 3.84, so I get 13 points for that. Point 1 for every .10 over 3.0, my nursing prerequisites GPA is 4.0, so I get 10 points for that. 42+10+13+10+1=76. I got 76 points. I hope I got it right. But I will still drive down there to submit my app for her to do the calculation again

I graduated from Midwestern State a couple of years ago and I was not happy at all with the education I received there. I went straight from school to working in an ICU and I learned everything on the job through my internship. A lot of my coworkers graduated from UTA and they had a much better experience there. Just a head's up :)

That's great Angie perry, i have 78 points and still not satisfied with all the calculations, just confusing to me. You definitely would get in like with no problems. You said you also applying to ut tyler? I heard it's one of the top nursing schools too. I have a classmate that got in this year fall semester with a 2.9 GPA and an 80 on teas. That was really surprising to me though, coz I thought it was difficult to get But oh well, God works in mysterious ways. U definitely would get into ut tyler aswell. I wanted to apply there too, but I won't even have time to really study for the teas, coz I work 12 hours everyday. So am just applying to 2-3 schools.

@keunnamonae all confusing, would just meet cr next year when turning in my application. Am ready to start nursing, every month thinking of buying some things that is listed on the housing page, that you can bring. I don't want to wait, till the last minute before buying all the stuff at once, that would be too expensive.

@missCCRN, that's surprising to hear. That's the first time have heard that. I have a family friend that graduated from there and is currently a nurse, she loved Midwestern. Well, I guess diff people with diff choices. My mum is a nurse and she explains things to me that I don't get. We would be doing care plan in school, she's already showing me how to. I don't think I would have a problem by God's grace. I also volunteer in the hospital and my current job is in a home health, so I see alot of stuff. Anyways thanks for the heads up.

I heard UT Tyler is a good school. I met with the advisor at Tyler yesterday, and it seems I might get in if I pass my Teas V test. I would love that. My sister is a midwestern nursing right now, so if I get in at UT Tyler I would choose them for a change. We are three girls, my bigger sister finished her nursung at Midwestern two years ago, my other sister has two more semesters to finish.

@angieperry true.. Change is good, you would get in with no problem, you just finish doing those nursing classes they require. Heard its a really good school. If I had more time to study for teas, would have applied there aswell. You can apply to texas a&m and texas tech too though. Tech require the teas, a&m requires hesi with the science portion and u would get more scholarship in texas tech aswell. But oh well, its what you want and where u want to go that matters.

@ lori19, do they same prerequisites as midwestern? Okay am going to check them out. Isn't it too late to apply into the school? You know you have to be accepted into the schools before you apply for nursing programs.

Tech I think only diff is they want nutrition. Also, they application for nursing opened in november. You can apply to the school now. They would have given me almost a full ride scholarship if I decided to go there. As long as u have 3.5 and above u get 14 thousand dollars for two years, if u in ptk, u get 1500, u can also apply to other scholarship in d school in addition. But that 14000 is guaranteed as long as u have that gpa and over 60 credit transferable from a college.

Yeah thats what I was thinking but luckily my godparents they dont have any kids of their own and they told me they would buy most of the stuff I needed for my apartment if I got accepted! So that some stuff I dont have to worry about financially.

I think it is all about the experience, some people have better schools that fit their needs. I have heard good things about midwestern, one of my friends go to midwestern and her roommate is in the nursing program and she talked to me about it but she said she loved it and I think it would be a good fit for me atleast.

I will be applying to texas tech for spring 2015 if I dont get into midwestern this semester for fall.(I cant apply for this fall because they require that you have 3 out of the 4 sciences clases done when you apply and I only have 2 completedd. Taking the other 2 this semster, so have to wait :( But hopefully I get into midwestern so I dont have to wait another semester to start nursing school and take pointless classes next fall lol) It is a really good school to my best friend goes there but she is in pharmacy. But all there health science department are great. I would apply @angieperry you have to have nutrition and pharm completed before you start the actual program but not when you apply
