Microbiology - Fall 2005

Published

Just bought my micro book today, so thought we needed to have a thread.

Classes start August 22. When do yours start?

What text are you using? We're using Tortora.

And are you taking lab too? Our lab is worth 2 credits, and I've heard with the amount of work you need to do, it should be more.

hi malia! my semester starts on 08/22 as well. i tried to take it over the summer (8 week session) and dropped after the 1st class. too much to learn in such a short period of time! not sure on the book yet - financial aid is behind in processing student loans and i just haven't had the $$ on my own to go buy it yet. also, taking the class on-line from a different campus than my own. in the fall my campus only offered it at night - which doesn't work for me.

looking forward to a good semester. i am also taking advanced physiology and 2nd level psych - lifespan development.

where do you go to school? i go to a community college in bloomington-in. look forward to getting to know you through out the semester!

i'm taking the exact same classes! they start aug 22 as well. good luck to you!

I loved Micro! It was fun and interesting. What you need to do it make sure you have a reliable lab partner that wont leave you to do all the work/tests, etc by yourself all the time.

Our unknown was done w/ a lab partner (some places you do that alone) so it made a big deal to have somone you can count on.

I'm also taking Micro this fall, although our text is by Talaro. Guess no one else is using this one? Well, my professor told me that this semester will be more difficult than any semester that we will have in nursing school. So good luck to all! :)

I am taking Micro this fall as well... we are using a book with a ton of authors ;) Microbiology: A Human Perspective which I have not purchased yet. My first lecture will be on the 22nd and lab on the 24th. You have to take the lab in order to get credit in our course... plus lab is where you have the fun!

I just finished up a heck of a summer... took a student orientation class (was supposed to be easy) but it was 4 classes of pure work, medical terminology... fun but a lot of memorizing in 5 weeks with 21 chapters... i have never learned so many words so fast! And I took A&P as well in 10 weeks. I loved my A&P class and had a blast in lab. I am so happy that 2 of my lab partners are going over to Micro with me and we will be in both lecture and lab with each other... we had so much fun this semester it wasnt funny... AND (as sad as I am to say) this was my first 4.0 semester!

Of course I get to hobble around this semester since i had knee surgery last tuesday... oh well...

Hey there - the only other group I have heard that uses that Micro book is from Indiana...plus all the talk about 5 week and 10 week semesters...that's what my school did over the summer...

I feel like a dork for continuing to ask people, but where do you go to school??

Don't feel like a dork!

I am at Thomas Nelson CC in Virginia... last semester of pre-reqs and I will apply in Feb for the fall program... taking Micro, Sociology, Ethics, and Basic Computer Literacy (online  ) this semester... just hoping my dang knee cooperates with me... I had no choice but to have this surgery between semesters and it was a little more than what I was planning for after it is all said and done... not sure if 6 weeks on crutches is gonna be fun! But hey... I really had no choice!

Ouch - 6 weeks...good luck to you. This is my last semester of pre-reqs, too. I have Micro & Psych 201 (both online) and then Advanced Physiology - or as we call it A&P3.

Good luck to you - I'm sure we will be in touch here on the boards :)

I just finished my summer semester of micro a couple of weeks ago--loved it! It's so fascinating and (IMO) not as dry as a lot of other science courses, especially if you get a good teacher. It's almost like zoology, except you're dealing with itty bitty animals instead of big ones :chuckle If you can get past the info overload, you start to see how amazing these invisible (to the naked eye, anyway) creatures really are.

Good luck--you'll do great!
