Microbiology - Fall 2008

Published

Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!

Count me in!! My classes start Sept 2nd and I'm taking A&P I and Micro.

I found FREE cliffnotes (online) for Micro. Not sure if it's the full version that the hard copy book contains, but seems to be pretty good and will dummy-down (no offense intended) the chapters. Here's the site: http://www.cliffsnotes.com/WileyCDA/CliffsReviewTopic/Microbiology.topicArticleId-8524.html

Also, found this site: http://www.free-ed.net/free-ed/Science/Biology/microbiol01/default.asp

It has a few quizzes at the end of each chapter.

Look forward to working with everyone!!

Jag,

Don't every apologize on my account for a "dummy-down" help anything!! I don't know where I'd be with them! :clown:

I start micro on Monday. I'm looking into getting a tape recorder to record the lectures. This is my first time taking a science class in a classroom setting. I took A&P I & II online.

I never used a tape recorder in a classroom before. This idea is a great one though. How much do they run for? I think I might try this.

Tape recorders are usually cheap depending on the size and if it's either a non-digital (the one with the mini tape) or digital. I purchased a non-digital one 3 years ago for about $30. What I really liked about it over the digital ones was that I could keep all of tapes and relisten to the lectures when I wanted to. With the digital one, you're restricted from doing that because you only have so much recording time available. Again, I purchased my recorder 3 years ago so, I don't know if technology has changed since then, but this is the experience I've had with it. Bestbuy.com has a good amount to choose from on their website.

My digital recorder can hold 29 hours worth at the highest quality. Then I hook it up to the computer and it saves them as .mp3 format. You can then listen to them on the computer if you want, but I add them to my iPod and listen to them that way. Then you just delete them off of the recorder and start all over. I don't have mine in front of me right now, but I think it's this one.

I'm looking at an Olympus digital voice recorder. It costs about $70. You can plug it into your computer and save the recordings. It can hold up to 138 hours or 70 hours if you want higher quality.

So I start Micro tonight...I sorta feel like I'm going to puke on myself. I'm so so nervous about this class and the fact that I'm going to be at a new school...:chair:

You are NOT going to Puke, you will be fine - breath in....breath out......LOL

I am reviewing ch1 and ch2 of the book today - it basically is a review of what we learned in bio101. Classes start here next Monday.

Go in with confidence that you will do well~! Good Luck and let us know how it goes~

I started this morning. It wasn't that bad. Kinda boring because we were just doing the history of micro.

Class went pretty good last night! I'm definitely still nervous but it seems like the prof does all he can to help his students succeed. He gives us his notes in outline form and he said last semester the class average was a B. Doesn't seem so bad now! Thank you guys so much for the encouragement, I really really appreciate it!:heartbeat
