Usually people just post questions or concerns they're having with the class or some part of the material and the people who understand the subject matter help them. Say if you're having trouble understanding how to culture some kind of bacteria or something, you would post that question on here and whoever can help you out will! It helped me a lot with the previous classes I've taken. Either that or maybe you just need to vent or you're nervous about a test, everyone is here to support each other! :icon_hug:

Hello,

How does a online study group work? I am a returning student (: So new to all this technology and options. I am hoping to review this course, maybe with you-all,then try to test out.I had the course >5 years so does not qualify for my credits for nursing school. Thanks DebolynnO :p

Once we all get started in Micro - if anyone comes across a clever way to remember something (anything), could you please post it? Thats a big part of how I remember stuff - to associate it with something, and I know other people are the same way.

For example:

I have read the 1st chapter just to get a head start and there was quite a bit about a guy named "Leeuwenhoek" who was a scientist who used a magnifying glass to view what he called "animalcules". So to remember him I just remember that my uncle (whose name is Lee) has a bunch of animials. So animals = Leeuwenhoek.

:twocents:

Anyway -

I learn that way too!

Me three! It's called ridiculous association and I swear by it:) I'm in for a study buddy! I start 8-25-08 too. I hear my teacher is somewhat of an @#& but it's not the first and I'm sure not the last. I'll be in touch and hopefully you guys will too, GOOD LUCK!

Hi,

I am taking microbiology this fall...along with A&P I, nutrition, and a speech class. I am quitting my job this week because of the anticipated stress level. Oh, and I am a single mother of 2 1/2-year-old twins. So I am a little nervous about this semester!

Hoepfuly having some support online will help, since real-life study groups aren't really an option for me.

LOL - I'm anticipating the stress too - but am only taking API and Micro. Unfortunately I had to pick up 20 hours at work (32/wk) and have 5 yo triplets and a 9 yo - but the little ones start all day kindergarten this year. I am anxious for classes to start and getting in a routine.

Count me in on the Study Group!

I'd like to join the study group as well. My class starts on September 2nd. I've spent some time with the Microbiology coloring book which has helped me get an idea of what I am in for. I have an older edition of the book we will be using since the college keeps a reference copy of the newest edition in thier library; in which I can look at when I need to. Looks to be a facsinating subject. Can't wait!

I'm also taking Intermediate Algebra which has me more nervous since it's been about 14 years since I have studied the subject. Argh. I'm very anxious to get this semester going. THEN I CAN APPLY!!!!!!! I'm counting down the days....

Pick up the book Practical Algebra: A Self-Teaching Guide from Amazon. You'll be glad you did.

Hi there,

I am taking Micro, A&P I and developmental psych. I have two kids, 15 and 8. I will be starting on Aug 25th. I would love to have a place to receive and post study tips, questions, etc. We all need moral support as well so count me in!!! So glad to know I am not in this alone.....I am kind of nervous!!!

I took Biology over the summer in a six week semester, it almost killed me....did anyone else think biology was challenging??

Yes I thought Biology was hard (tough prof.), but managed to pull out an A. I plan on lots of studying this semester
