Microbiology is my next exam as I await my evaluation from Excelsior. For those who have taken it, what did you use to study for the exam? What worked? (What didn't?) How long did it take?
I have the doorstop, I mean, textbook and have taken the practice exams. I don't ask for specifics, of course. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

i am not sure if you are set on taking it through excelsior, but here is another option.
i just finished microbiology through brigham young university independent study. it is all online and all self paced. the class is broken up into three sections. each section you have an assignment and a test. you go to a local college to take the test. it was a much easier way to get a good grade in a tough subject. i ended up with an a in it. plus, since it is broken up into three parts, its a bit easier on the brain to learn. or at least it was for me!

did you use this for the excelsior program? i went to their website, even though it is more expensive than using ec's course, i like how they split it up into different exams, instead of one test.

I used Lisa Arends note, the study guide and this amazing free podcast I found in itunes. It was a professor from Morris community college and I listened to her every sec I could......got a B.
good luck,

actually excelsior is who told me about it. i got them to approve it, then i went to byu independent study website and registered for the class. i did the online version. once i paid it gave me immediate access. i bought a used version of the book for about $5. (i still have it if you want it)
it was really good for me. made it easier than learning the whole course and taking one test. there is a lot to micro. if you end up taking it, let me know. i can give some pointers on how to study for his test.
:)
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I hope to test within the next week or so.
Sharwell, the microbiology exam is already paid for. It was one of the first things I did when I decided on Excelsior. The BYU option sounds great. I wonder what else they offer like that. I'd like to do chemistry that way. I'll look over the site again.

I simply took the course through my college. It wasn't that much more work than had I been studying independently for an exam. Easier in my view, because at any given time I always had an idea of what my grade was at that point.
The more I study, the more I want to move this microbiology test up. There's a lot to it. I think end of next week would be good. I really want to know the material, not just pass the test. I would like to be done with it, too, though! I must be getting close to being ready for it. When I get tried of thinking about the subject and just want it over with, it's time!
By the way, now I know everyone has cooties, not just those icky boys! :) I'm giving everyone Purell for Christmas! (Kidding!)

I took the Excelsior Exam on 11/2/10 and got a 'B'.
I took the content outline, and looked up each and every item the outline had on it in the Mircro textbook from the guided learning package.
It was easier than the Life Span and Anatomy tests believe it or not.

I used Micro Demystified and Micro Cliff Notes. I bought them from Amazon.com for pretty cheap and got a B. Good Luck!
