Microbiology in Dallas

Published

I am going to school at Brookhaven trying to finish up all my support classes for the nursing program. At the next application period, I'll be applying to Northlake, Brookhaven, and El Centro. I am nervous about Microbiology. I don't know where to take it or who a good professor is.

I can go to Richland, Northlake, El Centro, or Brookhaven. Does anyone know of a good professor?

hi, i don't know i good professor but i was wondering if you have applied before or if this will be your first time. i have all support courses except a&p2 and micro. do you mind me asking what your gpa is on the 4 pre-reqs? good luck to you!!

I'm not familiar with your area but when choosing my classes I use a website where the students rate their professors. Your schools might be in this website too.

the address is ratemyprofessors.com .

It is so helpful to me so I don't get stuck w/ a professor that isn't very good or just a tyrant.

Hope this helps a little.

This will be my first time applying. I am taking Chemistry in summer 1 and AP 2 in summer 2. My GPA is a 3.77 on the prereqs (Algebra is my only B). A+P and micro are my only two classes left, but I am going to apply during the next application period.

I took Chemistry to have more options as to where I can apply. I am finishing all the core for university program requirements at the same time - so that I could apply to TWU and UTA in the event that I can't get into a two year program.

How is your GPA? It's really competitive but it works out okay if you complete your supporting classes before you apply. Even with a 3.77, you can still get in. At least, that's how it was last semester. We'll see about the next go round. Too many applicants, too little slots, too little teachers.

If you can afford to make the drive and want a "A" in MICRO take it at Mountain View...you won't be sorry!!!:)

If not there Cedar Valley!

GOOD LUCK!

Micro is NUTTY!! I had all A's til micro. I was soooo happy with a B+. It is interesting though. :) Try your best to get a good teacher. Everything you learn in lab and class you can find on the internet, so just keep looking till you find it worded in a way that clicks for you. It's crazy how the teacher you have can make or break you. Good luck!!!!!

Wow, Girl! It helps a lot! Great Q. You should spread it all over... The most people rating, the best idea we can have about the professor's teaching style!

I took MicroSUX! at Brookhaven with Maria Serra.

She is a very nice lady, and is willing to help you if you aren't understanding something.

I took it during the summer, so I'm not sure if it's any better during the Spring or Fall, but she rushed through everything...lol

Her tests consisted of multiple choice & short answer. However, she gave partial credit on the short answer questions, as well as bonus questions.

A friend of mine went to NLC & said her tests were all short answer....you either knew it or not....no multiple choice answers to guess from if you didn't know an answer.

I made an A in an 8-wk Maymester.

Good luck!

Well I was going to say 2 teachers that are very good but they are at Eastfield. One teacher name Cunningham teaches at night which I took and he is really good and also during the day Tami Oliver teaches it and I had her for A&P II and she is really good too. I really like the biology teachers at Eastfield. Except for Knight though! He is a really nice guy but can go off the subject quite a few times so he does not always teach the material he should be teaching. Good luck!!

Hey Jenn,

Tom Cunningham is pretty good. I had him for Micro. in Spring 2005. The only problem is that he doesn't take charge of the class really well and can, at times, let some of the students sorta run over things. He's a very good teacher and really knows his stuff. He is also very soft spoken and in the labs in the new science building, the ventilating fans in the overhead tended to drown out his voice.

Carl Knight is a great teacher but you are correct that he can be led astray pretty easily...and worse...once he's astray, you have a helluva time getting him back on target....and you'll still be responsible for the material that he should have covered. I had Carl for A&P and Invertebrate Zoo back in 1976-77 and still go to him for advice and help when I need it.

He's an awesome teacher! I had him for A & P II. Great Guy...
