Microbiology and Chemistry at same time

Hello,

I am interested in apply for a nursing program that requires me to take chemistry and microbiology as prerequisites. Is it doable if I take them together in one semester? I have a full time desk job and still live at home.

Thanks!

For many people, it's doable. For others, it's not. I found microbiology super-easy and chemistry super-hard. Since you've posted a total of one time on this site, people probably don't know much about you. We know you have a job and live at home. That says nothing about your scholastic ability.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I took them both at the same time. It worked, although I didn't do as well in chemistry as I'd hoped. I was also working part-time and raising a family. So it's definitely doable.

It's doable, but it can be hard depending on the person. I'm terrible with managing my time and science is a difficult area for me so I can only take one or the other at a time.

Well I don't see how you can know ANYBODY'S scholastic ability on here, regardless of how many times they've posted, unless they openly stated their GPA scores or IQ, etc.

I mean, it CAN be done. I'm doing A&P2 with Micro now, and it's hard, but not impossible. I did Chem & A&P1 last semester, that was easier because I had both previously (but years ago).

Depend on which chemistry? Chem 1 is ok. Chem 2 NOO. Microbiology is much easier than chemistry. You'd rather wait than risk not getting good grade or flunk out. Trust me you don't want to flunk out nursing pre-req nowadays, it will make your upcoming admission much harder. Do both if you are good at chem.

Find out if there is a grade requirement for either class. We have a 'B' requirement for chemistry, so I didn't want to pile on more headaches (another difficult class) when I took it. Actually, I had to take it twice. If you have the time to spread your classes and find it challenging, I would try to take chemistry by itself and get a tutor right away! Otherwise, yes it's doable, but err on the side of caution especially if you are paying for your classes. Good luck!

Hiii!

I'm taking Microbiology and BioChem right now at the same time. It's totally doable - it just depends on how much time you have to study.

If you have the time, do it. If not, don't. How well do you do in your classes?

Last semester I took Chemistry and A&P ll in the same semester and did very well in both.

Put in the effort and time, and you'll be fine.

Best of luck!

I took microbiology, chemistry, A&P1, and statistics all in the same semester. It was crazy, I felt like I was drowning, and I do not recommend doing that.

But just micro and chem sounds do-able if you prioritize your studying. You still might feel like you're drowning, though.

I took A&P2, Inorganic Chem, Micro, and Human Growth and Development, plus all the labs this semester. Got a 4.0. Its doable if you have the ability and discipline.

I successfully took both chemistry and microbiology in one semester, along with three other courses, and I am an extremely slow worker. Although I don't work full time, other classmates who did work full time and also took both in one semester seemed to be able to handle the workload. Microbiology also wasn't as time consuming as Human Anatomy and Physiology. As long as your able to somewhat manage your time, it would be okay to take both. If you're taking any other courses along with chemistry and microbiology, just consider the workload along with these 2 additions.
