Figured I'd go ahead and start a thread for those of us taking Micro in the fall.

What books are you guys using? Anyone know of helpful sites, videos, etc?

I am loving it so far, especially the lab. We'll see how much I love after my first test.

My teacher keeps it very interesting, and doesnt seem to expect us to know every detail of each chapter. He gives reading assignments that are only a smart part of the chapters, he says the rest is fluff? Do we get tested on fluff, though?

I meant small part of the chapter

Mangopeach good job!!

AAAAAARGGH! I forgot that the deadline for the extra credit assignment for lab was due today! I can't believe it! I just threw away up to 5 extra points that could have been added to my final grade. WTH was I thinking???:banghead:

Thanks StudentNurse, I'm enjoying lecture way better than lab. I love my lecture professor. My lab prof, eh, yeah I should have listened to what they were saying on ratemyprof.

Do we get tested on fluff, though?

LOL:lol2:

If anyone reading this has taken Micro before, what were your lab practicals like? I've tried to get an answer from my prof as to what to expect for the mid term but getting an answer from him is like pulling teeth. Grrrr

Sorry about the extra credit, we don't have that option but our professor did tell us what we should keep in mind for the lab final from our last lab. My final is the round robin identify/question stations.

No one seems to have appreciated this long post about practicals, so I am deleting it ... you're on your own!

My book is Microbiology a human perspective by Nester. Our first exam is over chapters 1-3 and 12-14 and will be next Wednesday. Got 100% on first quiz but it was open book/open note, so not too hard. Metabolism and Genetics is the next section!

So far so good. 106% on the first exam. I always start off strong because I know I'll get lazy at the end and this gives me a buffer. Of course the first test is usually the easiest (IMO) so we'll see...

YEP! That's my strategy too! Get all the points you can while the material is relatively simple. :D ... nice job on your test!

My lab prof is working my last nerve!!! He's taking of ticky tack points off of our lab reports that have nothing to do with knowing the material. He actually took out a ruler to measure someone's margins. Unbelievable. Aaargh! I should have done my lab with my lecture professor. Ugh!

Oh that stinks. I don't have lab reports in Micro, just quizzes thank goodness.

Hang in there, you can do it. :o

Best, L.
