Finally mailed my app in today, nothing like waiting till the last minute I graduated from MSU in May with a degree in physiology.

I took all the prereq's at MSU during my four years there, and they weren't all 4.0's. but judging from prereqs I had to take to apply for other nursing programs (UofD) that I have recently taken at community college's, I don't see how they can look down upon a 3.0-3.5 at a four year university vs. a 4.0 at a community college... completely different difficulty level if you ask me...

Another applicant here. I graduated from MSU in 2003 with a BA in Communication. Had a change of heart and along with it, a change in career.

Hello everyone.
I applied. Confused about the decision letter that I got from the University. You had to apply to the University first in conjunction with the Second Degree application. Decision letter from the University said that they couldn't admit me to the School of Nursing (restricted degree), but that I was admissible. I'm waiting for an answer as to whether that means my application to the Second Degree has been denied or just the general transfer committee can't grant me Nursing school admission.
Anybody else get that letter?

To get around this, I applied to the university as an English major. Problem solved (for me); they will update the major to nursing once you matriculate.

I just sent my application in the other day. Decision letters will be sent out the third week of February. So...hurry up and wait! Does anyone know an acceptance rate or roughly how many people usually apply each year? Good luck to everyone!!

Mid-February? Dear God, help me. I am getting married in June and would love to have an answer sooner than that so I can start looking for apartments for the wife-to-be and I.

I found the difficulty level of community college classes to match (or exceed) the difficulty of classes at Michigan State. Admissions folks do not "look down" on community college courses at all, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Waiting until the last minute, on the other hand...

I got a letter from MSU today. I didn't get in:( For those of you who want my info: I had a 4.0 in prerequisites, graduated from MSU 20 years ago with a 2.98 undergrad GPA. Good luck to all!!

Got my 2nd rejection letter from MSU today.

Between last year's application and this year's, I took another class outside of the prereqs and began volunteering in the ER at Children's Hospital. My suspicion is that my 2.8 undergrad GPA at MSU keeps sinking me and I'm not sure I buy that "holistic" line.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck to you, don't give up there are a lot of other programs. Look into community college nursing programs as well, because some programs look at your gpa in the prerequisite courses ONLY and not your overall gpa....which may work out better! good luck!

Got the waitlist letter today. Anyone know how MSU's waitlist works? It didn't state a number or anything, just that it was limited.

I applied last year to MSU and was rejected. I don't know what they wanted but I had a very good gpa, one year of volunteer experience at a hospital, and my CNA. With all that, I still did not get in. I do think they look at undergrad GPA and one would think the recent work is more important. But I suspect they frown on it if you are around a 3.0 undergrad even if you have close to a 4.0 in pre-reqs. But I'm soo happy they did reject me because I applied at other schools and I got into a wonderful program and I graduate in December. So don't give up and apply to a bunch of schools. MSU is not all that, trust me.

I got my rejection letter today too. I was shocked to see the letter in my mailbox this soon! They said it wouldn't be until february.

For those who did not get in, I would highly, highly recommend Oakland University. I am a student now and absolutely love it. Of all the schools I applied to, I felt Oakland was the most upfront, honest, and took the most holistic approach. The clinical locations are second to none. I just send this out to you guys because I know what it feels like to be rejected.

I know someone who graduated from the program last year. She told me very good things about it and highly recommended it. It starts in May and is 4 straight semester so it's just like the traditional program without summer breaks. I sounds a little less intense then some programs like u of m's program because it's 14 months and Michigan's is 12. She said she felt very prepared after the program and she got a job right away. I took one class at state that was in the nursing college (pathophysiology) and if the rest of the classes are like that one then it's a great program. I graduated from MSU and that pathophysiology class was the best class I took there! I don't know if you are familiar with East Lansing and Lansing area but it's a great place to live. I applied to the program and didn't get in and I'm bummed because I think I really would have liked/done well in the program. oh well. If you got in you are very lucky and congratulations!
