Michigan State Accelerated Program
Finally mailed my app in today, nothing like waiting till the last minute I graduated from MSU in May with a degree in physiology. I took all the prereq's at MSU during my four years there, and they weren't all 4.0's. but judging from prereqs I had to take to apply for other nursing programs (UofD) that I have recently taken at community college's, I don't see how they can look down upon a 3.0-3.5 at a four year university vs. a 4.0 at a community college... completely different difficulty level if you ask me... good luck to everyone!!!

Thank you rockstar for all of the information! Good luck finishing the rest of the program :) I guess I am just confused still... Since I was not formally rejected, and instead told that spots were being filled if they become available, obviously that means if a few spots become available for January there is a possibility that I might be called to fill a spot. However, like creativetype was saying, do I not have to reapply to start in May (if I don't end up getting called to fill a spot in January). Will they just reconsider my same application or will I automatically be accepted? Basically, am I in for sure for May? I am just interested to know if anyone in your cohort, rockstar, was in a similar situation that I am currently. Obviously no one can tell me for sure besides the admissions committee, i just wondered if anyone here has any input :)

Unfortunately I finally got some real information today after emailing about my status. Apparently the program IS full for January and they are filling spots if they become available. I never received a letter/email telling me I wasn't accepted so I finally emailed today... So they must have some sort of wait list in place. I was wondering, for anyone who wasn't accepted the first time they applied, did they specifically tell you that in an email or did you have the same experience I am having? Basically I am wondering if they do in fact reject some people, wait list a few for backup reasons, and accept their top 70? Or do they wait until the last minute to notify everyone who is rejected and only get back right away with people they accept. I'm extremely depressed to get this news, but I guess there is a slight possibility it could still happen if some people decide to go elsewhere. I am trying to stay positive but it continues to get harder with each development in this process Also, will I have to reapply for May 2011 or will they forward my application to that group of applicants?

Yes, thanks Sophia for your responses! I have not been accepted yet, but UDM is my top choice... A previous post asked about being a bridesmaid in a wedding next summer, and I know you were the May 2010 start so you were in your first semester during the summer months... but that poster was accepted for January 2011 and therefore would be into their second semester during summer 2011... I know you can't be certain, but do you think it is too much to take on being a bridesmaid during the program? My best friend actually asked me to be her maid of honor in her wedding which is in the end of July 2011, and she asked me way before I applied to the program (and I of course agreed that I would love to). My worst fear would be having clinical on that Saturday, but other than that horrible time conflict, do you think it is possible to keep your friend somewhat satisfied and still pass such a fast paced nursing program? If I'm not accepted for January 2011, I would definitely reapply for May 2011, which would bring up the same problem. I would love to have your experienced opinion

Your application might be unique, but I'm sure they have had somewhat similar applicants in the past that they accepted (and I'm sure they did very well in the program). And I guess after all... all they can do is say NO, right? At first I thought the admissions process was going very smoothly, now I feel a bit different

I will have them done once I take my last two prerequisites this fall. When I applied they reviewed all of my classes from my degree at MSU and let me know I had two pre reqs to finish and asked me to send my plan for where I would take them this fall so that they could make an admissions decision. I sent that plan like a day or two later and have been expecting my decision for what seems like forever What about you, have you already finished yours? Try to stay positive, I'm sure you are a great candidate... it's just so competitive now that everyone second guesses themselves... My pre req GPA isn't a 4.0, but I took all of them so far at MSU while taking 400-level science classes, so I'm hoping they take that into account. Ugh, waiting is the worst part!

Yes she is the person from admissions I've been talking to. Wow, I'm really bummed if they've filled all of the spots and I haven't heard back yet... I feel like that's a really bad sign. But who knows maybe they haven't informed everyone yet. I am trying really hard to stay positive... Thanks for the info, will you be applying for the may 2011 start?

Congrats Lo-be!!!! I was just wondering if you could tell me when you applied and how long it took to hear back that you were accepted. I applied June 22nd for the January 2011 cohort and still have not heard back... Again, congratulations and I hope to be joining you :)

Thanks creativetype. They did not even hint towards why it is taking so long to hear back about the decision for me. It is so strange because I got a letter in the mail about five weeks ago that thanked me for applying and said once my transcripts were received I could expect an admissions decision within 2 weeks. My transcripts were already in by the time I got that letter, so I've been expecting my decision for the past 3 weeks... I'm not too worried about my grades, but I feel like its a bad sign that its taking so long to hear back. It'd be nice to know so I can figure out my next move...

Well, admissions got back with me today. They said I'm not accepted to the program yet, and what I got in the mail was information they send to all nursing applicants. Which is interesting since Kalabaw was already accepted to the program and hadn't received that info while they were still considered an applicant. All I can do now is wait... again...

Yeah I have emailed and left her a voicemail, I think she must be really busy this time of year. Guess I'll just have to wait it out :)

Hey ccarts, I'm going to UD's home page, clicking on the Apply link, then the apply online, then entering my user ID and password, then clicking on my application for winter 2011 and it brings up an application summary and in that summary it says "application status: complete and ready for review" should I be looking somewhere else?

Kalabaw I checked my application on the website and my application status says "Complete and ready for review" like it has for the last month and a half... I'm so confused as to why I got that information in the mail. I guess I'll just wait to get a call or email back from the admissions office, and since it's Saturday I guess it won't be until next week sometime. Creativetype, it sounds like you have a lot of good options to decide from :) good luck!!!

Thanks for your responses sophia and kalabaw! I wonder if I didn't get that same acceptance procedure because I still have two prereqs to finish fall semester... are you already done with all prereqs kalabaw? I would assume they can't send me an official acceptance until I complete both of those classes with a 2.5 or better. Just a guess. I sent them an email since they never called me back, so I am just waiting...
