  1. Finally mailed my app in today, nothing like waiting till the last minute I graduated from MSU in May with a degree in physiology. I took all the prereq's at MSU during my four years there, and they weren't all 4.0's. but judging from prereqs I had to take to apply for other nursing programs (UofD) that I have recently taken at community college's, I don't see how they can look down upon a 3.0-3.5 at a four year university vs. a 4.0 at a community college... completely different difficulty level if you ask me... good luck to everyone!!!
  2. Thank you rockstar for all of the information! Good luck finishing the rest of the program :) I guess I am just confused still... Since I was not formally rejected, and instead told that spots were being filled if they become available, obviously that means if a few spots become available for January there is a possibility that I might be called to fill a spot. However, like creativetype was saying, do I not have to reapply to start in May (if I don't end up getting called to fill a spot in January). Will they just reconsider my same application or will I automatically be accepted? Basically, am I in for sure for May? I am just interested to know if anyone in your cohort, rockstar, was in a similar situation that I am currently. Obviously no one can tell me for sure besides the admissions committee, i just wondered if anyone here has any input :)
  3. Unfortunately I finally got some real information today after emailing about my status. Apparently the program IS full for January and they are filling spots if they become available. I never received a letter/email telling me I wasn't accepted so I finally emailed today... So they must have some sort of wait list in place. I was wondering, for anyone who wasn't accepted the first time they applied, did they specifically tell you that in an email or did you have the same experience I am having? Basically I am wondering if they do in fact reject some people, wait list a few for backup reasons, and accept their top 70? Or do they wait until the last minute to notify everyone who is rejected and only get back right away with people they accept. I'm extremely depressed to get this news, but I guess there is a slight possibility it could still happen if some people decide to go elsewhere. I am trying to stay positive but it continues to get harder with each development in this process Also, will I have to reapply for May 2011 or will they forward my application to that group of applicants?
  4. Yes, thanks Sophia for your responses! I have not been accepted yet, but UDM is my top choice... A previous post asked about being a bridesmaid in a wedding next summer, and I know you were the May 2010 start so you were in your first semester during the summer months... but that poster was accepted for January 2011 and therefore would be into their second semester during summer 2011... I know you can't be certain, but do you think it is too much to take on being a bridesmaid during the program? My best friend actually asked me to be her maid of honor in her wedding which is in the end of July 2011, and she asked me way before I applied to the program (and I of course agreed that I would love to). My worst fear would be having clinical on that Saturday, but other than that horrible time conflict, do you think it is possible to keep your friend somewhat satisfied and still pass such a fast paced nursing program? If I'm not accepted for January 2011, I would definitely reapply for May 2011, which would bring up the same problem. I would love to have your experienced opinion
  5. Your application might be unique, but I'm sure they have had somewhat similar applicants in the past that they accepted (and I'm sure they did very well in the program). And I guess after all... all they can do is say NO, right? At first I thought the admissions process was going very smoothly, now I feel a bit different
  6. I will have them done once I take my last two prerequisites this fall. When I applied they reviewed all of my classes from my degree at MSU and let me know I had two pre reqs to finish and asked me to send my plan for where I would take them this fall so that they could make an admissions decision. I sent that plan like a day or two later and have been expecting my decision for what seems like forever What about you, have you already finished yours? Try to stay positive, I'm sure you are a great candidate... it's just so competitive now that everyone second guesses themselves... My pre req GPA isn't a 4.0, but I took all of them so far at MSU while taking 400-level science classes, so I'm hoping they take that into account. Ugh, waiting is the worst part!
  7. Yes she is the person from admissions I've been talking to. Wow, I'm really bummed if they've filled all of the spots and I haven't heard back yet... I feel like that's a really bad sign. But who knows maybe they haven't informed everyone yet. I am trying really hard to stay positive... Thanks for the info, will you be applying for the may 2011 start?
  8. Hey bigdude, no they have yet to let me know their decision. I'm really going insane :/
  9. Congrats Lo-be!!!! I was just wondering if you could tell me when you applied and how long it took to hear back that you were accepted. I applied June 22nd for the January 2011 cohort and still have not heard back... Again, congratulations and I hope to be joining you :)
  10. Thanks creativetype. They did not even hint towards why it is taking so long to hear back about the decision for me. It is so strange because I got a letter in the mail about five weeks ago that thanked me for applying and said once my transcripts were received I could expect an admissions decision within 2 weeks. My transcripts were already in by the time I got that letter, so I've been expecting my decision for the past 3 weeks... I'm not too worried about my grades, but I feel like its a bad sign that its taking so long to hear back. It'd be nice to know so I can figure out my next move...
  11. Well, admissions got back with me today. They said I'm not accepted to the program yet, and what I got in the mail was information they send to all nursing applicants. Which is interesting since Kalabaw was already accepted to the program and hadn't received that info while they were still considered an applicant. All I can do now is wait... again...
  12. Yeah I have emailed and left her a voicemail, I think she must be really busy this time of year. Guess I'll just have to wait it out :)
  13. Hey ccarts, I'm going to UD's home page, clicking on the Apply link, then the apply online, then entering my user ID and password, then clicking on my application for winter 2011 and it brings up an application summary and in that summary it says "application status: complete and ready for review" should I be looking somewhere else?
  14. Kalabaw I checked my application on the website and my application status says "Complete and ready for review" like it has for the last month and a half... I'm so confused as to why I got that information in the mail. I guess I'll just wait to get a call or email back from the admissions office, and since it's Saturday I guess it won't be until next week sometime. Creativetype, it sounds like you have a lot of good options to decide from :) good luck!!!
  15. Thanks for your responses sophia and kalabaw! I wonder if I didn't get that same acceptance procedure because I still have two prereqs to finish fall semester... are you already done with all prereqs kalabaw? I would assume they can't send me an official acceptance until I complete both of those classes with a 2.5 or better. Just a guess. I sent them an email since they never called me back, so I am just waiting...
  16. No, I don't think they're looking to adopt, and I'm pretty sure they would rethink having me in the first place if they would've known how much I'd cost them in the future They are willing to help me get the loans I need and probably to aid me in the pay back process until I am settled with a job... but they are definitely not paying them back. So yea, having that much debt before I'm 25 is scary! So I know you started this post awhile ago, are you still considering UDM or are you focusing on other options since you want to continue your education past a BSN right away?
  17. Yes, I agree that it is important to really sit down and think about what type of program is right for each individual. UDM is extremely expensive, and I am very fortunate to have parents willing to help me with the loan process and living costs. Without their help there is no way I would be able to complete such a program. Of course it is terrifying to know that you will get no second chances in the program, and the thought of wasting that much money makes me sick! But it is a risk I'm willing to take to get my nursing education completed. I had applied to another school for August 2010 start and was declined, so I personally cannot afford to wait for acceptances (or rejections) to schools that have about 500 qualified people applying for maybe 50 spots. We all know that nursing school is competitive and expensive in general and therefore we are all taking huge risks in our search for further education. Luckily there are a lot of different options in the area and each person has a chance to evaluate where they feel is their best fit. I think everyone who comments on these threads has great potential to become nurse, and I hope everyone is able to find a nursing school path that fits their own financial, family, and personal needs.:redbeathe
  18. No problem and thank YOU for the info ccarts :) It is so nice to hear that from you because I was so confused why they wouldn't write something more clear like "you have been accepted" lol. I will be taking my final two prereqs this fall. I'm sure you read from previous posts on this page that they will still give you an admissions decision as long as you have 4 or less to complete. I applied for the program end of June so they got back to me really quickly. I was very impressed with how the university treats applicants. I don't feel like giving out my actual GPA:p, but I will tell you my GPA from my degree in physiology from MSU was lower than your GPA. I have been terrified that my GPA wasn't good enough. Because my major was basically for premed students, I had to take 400-level biochems 1&2, organic chem 1&2 w/ a lab, general chem 1&2 w/ labs, physical chemistry, physics 1&2 w/ labs, math up to and including calc 2, two biology classes w/ labs, and four physiology classes and physio 2 labs... so I'm assuming they took that into account. As far as paying for it, yikes! I know UDM gives out a grant for your previous degree GPA... look back earlier on this thread and you will find more info about that. I believe since your GPA is above a 3.5 you would receive the highest amount possible. But, this grant only puts a dent into the total cost of the program. I will definitely be looking into other grants and scholarships, but I'm pretty sure most of it will need to be covered by private loans. Thanks again for your info, I hope my info has helped you as well!!
  19. Hey ccarts, the GPA from your bachelors degree overall must be a 3.0 or higher, and all prereqs must be a 2.5 or higher. Good luck to you, I hope to see you in January!!! I had a question for anyone already accepted to the program... I am also waiting to hear back for the January 2011 cohort and today I got a packet in the mail that contained a letter about a criminal background check and also a generic letter that didn't say I was officially accepted BUT thanked me for my interest in the nursing program and that "they were sure I would do great things here". Is this my acceptance letter? I thought it would be more along the lines of "CONGRATULATIONS" and that I would get an email first.... But I'm not sure why they would send information about a background check to someone who wasn't going to be in the program... I called admissions and left a message to get back with me but they haven't called back yet. Basically I don't want to get my hopes up if I'm not really accepted, but I feel like I am... so I'm about to scream with happiness
  20. I say GO FOR IT. You obviously have a calling, don't let your fears keep you from doing what you are definitely capable of! You have proven yourself by working on a degree with such success even while being a parent. There are a lot of nursing school options out there, and if you do your research I'm sure you will find a good fit. I am not a parent myself, yet, but just reading discussions on this website has proven to me that if you really want to accomplish nursing school and being a parent at the same time, YOU CAN :) Good Luck:D
  21. Wow, that is very exciting to hear I hope they like my application and let me know quickly, as we all know it's difficult being patient when your entire future is being considered! Thanks for your information, I'm sure I'll have more questions soon!!!
  22. Thanks CNTnurse, I was really worried that I had missed something. It sounds like they fill spots quickly, I hope I applied early enough to be considered for January 2011, though I would still be happy to start in May 2011. The waiting game begins I actually just graduated from Michigan State in May this year and I majored in Physiology. I was wondering, how were you notified about the class being too full for May 2010, and then later about your acceptance for January 2011? By email, on the application website, mail? -Liz
  23. Congrats CNTnurse! I just applied today for the SDO BSN Jan 2011, and I had a question for you or anyone else that can help! I completed the online application and sent my transcripts in already, but after applying for other schools recently I felt like UD's application wasn't as in depth as other universities. When you applied were you only required to fill out the online application for the University (which was only like 11 steps), check your program of study as the SDO, and mail your transcripts? I can't believe they wouldn't require a resume, essay questions, reference letters? Did I miss a secondary application link, because I searched the website and couldn't find anything of the sort. I'm just confused and need some confirmation that I did fully apply to the program... thanks for any help :) Also CNTnurse, how long ago did you apply to the program to have already found out your acceptance this June? Thanks!!!
  24. Hey everyone, I was wondering for those who were waitlisted/accepted/rejected... did all of these decisions appear online, or did you have to wait to receive them in the mail?
