Miami Dade College Spring 2015 RN Program

Published

Hi all!

I wanted to start a thread for all of the Spring 2015 MDC RN applicants. I finally finished all of my pre-req's, and have started studying for the NLN PAX RN exam. I am hoping this thread, like many other MDC threads of the past, can help us all to build friendships, support one another, and most importantly, help us through this difficult process. Welcome! :)

I just don't like that the 3 orientations are weekdays and I am taking other classes; the last mandatory orientation is December 16 and I had a final that day .  I guess I'll have to talk to all my professors and make changes now.

What?? Te last mandatory orientation is Dec 16th? I thought the bootcamps and test-taking strategies were not mandatory?

The boot camp is mandatory. When I applied I had to sign a pink slip for both applications agreeing to attend boot camp if accepted.

We have to think positive maddymessa. Remeber like you said, we still haven't received rejection letters yet. So there is still some hope.

:) do you mind sharing your gpa? and which program(s) you applied to?

When you turned in your acceptance form, did you bring it to an advisor? I gave it to an advisor instead of the person in the New Student Center. How can I check the right person got it?

Yes it was actually that way for me too. I turned mine on the desk then signed a yellow paper, and an advisor came and took it from the girls in the front desk, actually that advisor was the one that took my application too so I'm assuming she is the one proccesing the acceptance letters

By the way has anything changed in the degrees audits for anybody? I don't get to see my spring schedule until tomorrow

My overall GPA is a 3.61 and my science is a 3.41. It's pretty low so I know my chances aren't very high. But I'm just waiting, I still haven't received a rejection letter yet.

Oh, and I applied to generic full time.

You have a very good gpa, you should get an acceptance letter in the second batch dont worry

Now this might seem like a stupid question to some, but I have never attended school in the US, so I'm not familiar with common college procedures here. I just put down my deposit for the Generic FT AS in Nursing at Homestead Campus. Now working on getting all the paper work etc. But I am wondering what next steps are regarding our class schedules? Will we automatically get a schedule with the mandatory classes? Or do we have to register for all individual classes ourselves, just like we did with all the pre-reqs? I wanted to ask this question to an advisor when I turned my form in, but they kind of brushed me off and I couldn't even get all my questions out... Thank you :)

I actually asked the advisor when I turned in my form and according to her classes are picked during orientation and 1-2 weeks after that tuition for the first semester is due.

Hello all, I am excited for the rest of you to get your acceptance letters! The same thing happened to me, I came in, turned in the form at the front desk, I filled out the yellow paper, and then Advisors came out to collect the sheets. They told me to wait to make sure everything was ok. Then they came out and just said I was good to go. I asked the girl in the front when I can register for class and she said it would be after orientation to give everyone a fair chance to get the classes they want. Also, the bootcamp is definitely Mandatory. I remember signing that too when I applied. And I think we add the classes ourselves but it has to be in the correct order by semester as stated on the website. However, if you are curious, you can already check out the class times by searching the classes by your program. I already looked up the clinical sites and the course number for the one I want. That way, as soon as the class registration opens up, I can quickly add that clinical site lol :)

By the way, I went to the fingerprint place in Coral Gables and it was also very quick, 5 minutes max. Be sure to bring the paper they email you! I didn't have mine and I thought they'd print it for me but they told me to come back with it. I didn't have to make an appointment to come back either, I guess appointments are not really necessary since they are so quick.
