Miami Dade College Spring 2016 nursing program admission

Updated:   Published

Good morning/night to all who are reading this,

I created this post in the hopes that all applicants applying for the nursing program at Miami dade submit their experience they have had so far and also submit any questions they might have. I'm currently applying for the accelerated option but would like to hear what others are doing in the part time and generic option. A little about me is that I have a BSN in health science (2014) and have taken all the prerequisites with the exception of A&P 2 (which I am retaking in summer b June 22).

Right now my biggest concern is the hesi a2 exam we have to take and making sure i ace it because my science gpa is not so hot right now. I have read prior posts and it seems like A&P is the most challenging section. Has anyone taken it as yet? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm worried that after they evaluate my degree they might not take my science subjects and make me re do them ? ? . Has any one's transcript been evaluated yet?

is it the comprehensive review or the Q&A review book??

Btw- warning- orientation is rather lame. Just want to give you the heads up. Suggestions for books that will help- Fundamentals for Success- see if you can find someone with an online version. It will help you the first semester get into the swing of things answering critical thinking questions. That it seems is what everyone has the most difficulty with.

Brush up on medical terminology. If you don't know what a word is in the question, how can you possibly pick the right answer. The lingo is a completely different language so can be a challenge to many.

Buy the Saunders- NCLEX review book- It is about $60.00 but has been the most worthwhile thing I have bought. Mine is now almost falling apart I have used it so much. Buy it new with the code inside. That code and the online review questions will be invaluable to you to help you study for the HESI each semester. Remember in MDC the HESI is worth 15% of your entire grade so unless you have an A in the class you cannot afford to get a big fat 0 on the test. At MDC you must get 750 to get any points for the HESI. Below 750= 0 and will basically drop your grade 2 letter grades- A to C, B to D etc.

Good luck and when they say you need to study they are not joking. Our class started off with 50 people- 23 flunked fundamentals, we lost 12 more in Pharmacology and Med Surg. Out of the original group I think we have 15-17 left so far and I am in 3rd semester.

Nursing school has been one of the hardest things I have done and one that I am most proud of. Keep studying- you can do it!!

is it the comprehensive review or the Q&A review book for the n-clex book??

Bad news for the people that haven't done the physical and want to do it at mdc the raised the price from 225 to 345 :(

345 is ridiculous. My goodness

Yeah I was going to try to go today but they told me to make an appt. 335 doesn't sound so bad, specially when you don't have insurance. :sour:

Why does that work for you melz? Will insurance ease the blow to my wallet? Also we can't get these done at our regular doctors office?

Guys 225 was very cheap. I did it through my doctor and some medical offices and ended up spending 290

They probably realized that it was too cheap, I called a doctor's office the other day and they wanted to charge me $40 for the physical.. Are you serious?? $40 for signing a paper?? It was ridiculous!!

Yea they just raised the prices cause I paid 225 cause I didn't wait... Tomorrow am getting my ppd read do my 10 pannel drug test and physicals and I'll be done all I will have to do is wait for my results

I've heard doctor 365 in plantation has good prices.

I did everything already. I'm just waiting for titers results, and waiting to get my second ppd on Monday. Already have drug test, cpr, tdap, and background check.

I just uploaded the results today. And even now MDC offers the best price guys! My doctor billed $350 to my insurance and that is completely separate from the blood work that LabCorp will be billing soon.
