Hey everyone,
I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.
I will start:
I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)
hi good evening, got accepted for generic full time at medical campus and completed all paperwork and handed them in yesterday but I have a problem. I found out yesterday that I don't have an immunity to varicella and my doctor's office doesn't offer it. Does anyone know anywhere that i can get it done for a reasonable price and in a timely manner? Tried calling a couple of places but nothing favorable. Thanks in advance.
Hey guys..I was talking to a few RN friends about the job market for new grads. They said the way to go is internship. Jackson, UM, and Baptist all offer them. There are different types of internship also.(Emergency,Icu,etc) They're four months long and mainly for new grads. It's how you get your experience. If you are looking to get a job in ICU or emergency you will need to have experience or have gone through an internship. They're offered twice a year at each hospital, and you need to be already licensed to apply.

Try here: Miami-Dade County Health Department | Immunizations
@ngel, great point. hospitals love people who choose internship, and it's a great way to meet contacts and get a "feel" for the hospital you're considering. ive heard of other RN students working as PCT's or CNA's while in school to get experience. all in all, while the economy is in a downturn right now, it will eventually bounce back. nursing is projected to have more than enough jobs for the years to come. the anticipation of an increasing "older" population already has hospitals and clinics popping up everywhere... ex: baptist west, not too many people live out in 160th av right now,but give it a few years. I don't know about you guys but im more concerned with getting through my 1st semester, than my job outlook in 2014
Internships: Four months of free labor after you've earned your license? That's the Scholars' Programs (where the hospital pays your tuition) turned on their head.
As far as the Miami-Dade Health Department immunizations are concerned — they have everything, but they were only slightly (very slightly) less expensive than Dr. Tur's office. If you're of limited income, you might be able to get low-cost or free immunizations from one of the public clinics.
with regards to these internships/externships, many now want bsn ( ie. baptist scholars), also now a days to get in anywhere for a job or even internship its not what you know its who you know, thats why buddying up with the DON's and Nurse managers, ect ect in clinicals is super important, im challenging the CNA exam during school so i can begin to get some exp. somewhere and get to know people in the places i wanna be.
come on guys, lets not get all negative now, it's not important how we get the job we are seeking in the future. some of us will "know" someone in the field, resulting in an interview, others will have some experience in some form or another, some of us are military veterans, some of us might want to do an internship or challenge the CNA board.in the end you have to "sell" yourself at the interview. these are all proactive ways to get hired. and although it would help to have a BSN, we dont... what works for "one" person, might not be the way "you" want to do it, now im not going to point any fingers, but,i get the impression that maybe some of you guys should major in economics instead of nursing.i dont know how any of us can say whether it will be difficult or easy for us to get a job in a yeah and a half from now(myself included). but when i go to hospitals in miami and broward, and i see a large filipino/canadian base working as nurses, that tells me that there is a shortage. i think maybe as the old saying goes: "we'll cross that bridge when we get there", i look forward to meeting you all at orientation tomorrow, i'll be wearing the yellow t-shirt, my name is marc by the way.so lets stop shooting each other down, and let start picking each other up ok...peace
