MGH IHP Direct Entry NP 2015

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi folks! I couldn't find a post about the 2015 application cycle and I'm interested to see how other people are feeling about it. Since so many other schools have November deadlines, I've already finished up my MGH app (save my letters...) and submitted it.

I'm going after the psych direct-entry NP program. One of the nurses I work with had been in their NP program and recommended it very strongly. My own NP went to Yale and, weirdly enough, told me she hated Yale and wished she went to MGH. She then raved about all the MGH NPs she works with and how great they are. I'm applying to Yale anyway, since who knows what might happen, but I am reeeeeally hoping to get in!

They ask if you've worked for any Partners hospitals...anyone know if this actually affects your chances? Or what the estimated acceptance rates are by program?

You'll hear within the next two weeks. No doubt.

Are you basing this off of the previous years when decisions were sent out?

So I don't know when they'll be sending out decisions, but I think I have to get over the fact that just because they sent out admissions decisions around this time last year does not necessarily mean that they'll be doing the same this year. Have been refreshing my email compulsively today, thinking we may hear something! I guess I should remember that there's been snow day upon snow day in Boston this January-February, which has probably pushed back their schedule a bit. Anyway, hope to hear something soon!!!

When I asked them last week they said to check in with them tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be the same thing, but who knows. On Monday, Columbia said it would be another two weeks...and then they released decisions an hour or two later. I think MGH may give us a bit more of a heads up than Columbia. But the point stands - admissions does what they want whenever they're ready.

That is sadly oh-so-true. Let's hope they make some magic happen!

I asked BC about scholarships and they said they would have been mentioned in the award letter if you got any. They encourage students to apply to outside scholarships because funding through BC is scarce.

Be sure to let us know if you check in with them today :)

Got the 8-10 week non-answer, along with them saying they've fallen behind due to snow days. Not digging the snow day excuse since I'm guessing their admissions system is web-based. I suspect they could do some of the work from an encrypted home computer if they really wanted to/could get their employees on board with it.

I'm getting a lil impatient, but they're still within the 8-10 week window. Maybe by the end of the month?

Let's hope. They're going to lose a lot of candidates to other schools if they don't get their act together.

Yeah...I've been talking to a lot of people in area hospitals and they all say, "MGH is a good program," but they always say it with this weird tone that leaves the impression that it's good BUT other programs are better. It's making me take a closer look at the other programs I've been accepted to.

A friend of mine is at MGH and he's told me the same thing. He said it's a 'good' program, but a bit of a mess. He wishes he chose to go to Simmons instead.

Aren't you waiting to hear from UMass? That's the one school I wish I could have applied to. But, alas, no psych program.

It's funny to think of how I ranked the schools back when I was applying. Now I have no idea what program I want. Just a few more weeks until we should all know the final results from every school!

Yep, if what I was told at the end of my interview is accurate, the admissions committee is meeting as I type. I'm trying to keep positive thoughts, but my stomach is presently in knots while I wait for the phone call.

My list definitely changed after I visited each school. UMass was my 2nd, maybe even 3rd school until I went to the info session. After that they became my undisputed #1!
