MGH BSN Summer 2015

Published

Is anyone else applying to the MGH Accelerated BSN program for Summer 2015? How is everyone feeling about it??

@ lagirl_1989 Good memory. Yes I declined NYU. I declined purely for financial reasons. Their tuition approaches 100k. Also I had been accepted for the term that started in January 2015. It gave me no time to get my ducks in a row so to speak. I have a 3.75 cumulative GPA, and a 3.85 prereq. Cost of living in New York was also a deterring factor. Best wishes.

@markrleon, curious as to what your background is, if you don't mind sharing.

I've lived in Boston for two+ years...also pretty costly. I've heard mixed answers when asking previous MGH alumni if its possible to work during the program. I'll need to work at least part time to make it work or join the navy reserve or something.

I have been accepted into the program starting May 2015... I"m excited, but still have to decide if I will be attending. It depends on costs. Hopefully i could receive some type of scholarships.

I do have to say, I got into Simmons and MGH is more affordable...and I work at MGH so I can say the environment is 1 million percent worth it.

@ SKay226. do you know if MGH hires their own grads? how hard is it to get rotations there?

Yea I have a friend who lives in Boston and she is really pushing for me to go to MGH.. Has nothing but great thjngs to say about the school And the surrounding areas and affiliated hospitals... I'll be moving from Florida if I go.. Big change but exciting as well

I work for mgh currently (1.5 yrs) but can't really speak for them. The institution itself is not truely affiliated but from what I hear, many of your clinicals, if not all are within MGH. Its up to you to make connections with floor nurses etc. during clinicals. Also highly recommended to work as as a CNA within the Partners system after second semester (when you're eligible and have time). Most places hire from within... internal, with floor experience. People I know found jobs four months after they graduated, if they took the nclex 4 weeks or less after school...and that was for bigger hospitals like mgh

Just keep in mind, the school is not MGH itself...they are not affiliated. They may have an agreement for some clinical rotations and still live up to the MGH name, but are not the same institution.

It was originally founded by MGH but is now an independent affiliate. That being said, you still get an awesome education that comes with the name of a top hospital nationwide. Worth it? Totally

@ SKay226, i'll be sure to keep that in mind! it was founded by MGH, but who is it an independent affiliate now? Is it possible for it to lose accredition or for school to close? If you've heard of West Coast University in LA, it's a for profit school.

it's very important to me to go to a well regarded school which has a consistent reputation of producing good nurses.

ok i just checked it's a non-profit school
