Hello! I didn't see a forum for Fall 2020 applicants so I thought I'd start one. Good luck everyone ?

I sent the following email to those above:
To whom it may concern,
Today I received a letter stating I was able to move on to Phase 3 and submit my TEAS scores. An hour later I received this email of the lottery results. I don't understand how we went from being able to move forward with submitting our TEAS scores (phase 3) which in turn would have reduced the number of applicants in the lottery, to the lottery being done early. Based on the application:
After Phases 1&2 - Students will be notified of their application status by email or USPS. The letter will explain if the applicant will be eligible to continue to Phase 3. It is the student’s responsibility to notify ADN of address changes. If you have not received a response by April 27th, send an email to [email protected]. Applicants can also check the website for status updates at www.Merritt.edu/wp/NURS/
Phase 3. Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS v. 6) – You will be notified requesting to have your TEAS 6.0 scores sent electronically from ATI at your own expense. TEAS v.6 is a new version of the TEAS exam. We are no longer accepting TEAS 5.0 scores. We accept only FIRST TIME TEAS 6.0 scores.
Phase 4. Lottery - After passing Phase 3, qualified applicants will be entered into a lottery on May 21st to determine the admitted class. Students will be notified of their admission status by email or USPS within 10 days of the lottery. If you have not received a response by June 4th send an email to [email protected].
I really hope this was a mistake. I don't see any reason as to why the TEAS scores would have been cut out, especially without an explanation. Can you please give us more information on what happened with the application process this year?
Thank you,
Ashley
Feel free to copy my email and email them as well. If enough of us question the application process, they will be forced to respond with an explanation.

That’s a really good message to them. I will be doing the same. Should I start a Change.org petition ???jk

I really hope those emails were sent out by accident or something, this is very strange. Even with everything going on, I don't see how sending in our TEAS scores is affected by it. We are really owed an explanation...
Did you apply to any other schools? Napa Valley is my back up, they are accepting applications from June 1-10.
I'm glad that I am not the only person who feels this way. I was a bit hesitant to reach out to them, but at the end of the day, it's worth a try. I just emailed them requesting for clarification since the process was not what the brochure described.
I think Solano Community went through something similar this year. I just remember they sent out results and had to take them back. I didn't apply there so I am not 100% sure what their situation ended up being. I think they had to do a redraw

It can't hurt, they owe us an explanation! How can they admit people without their TEAS scores! Isn't that the point of the TEAS, to "weed" people out.
Yes Solano did go through the same thing, that’s why it’s kind of sketchy to me ! And they are still requiring TEAS scores to be submitted, and if the requirement of 62% isn’t met, then they will withdraw you as an applicant, and you’ll no longer be able to proceed with admissions. It’s basically like they Just put everyone who met the chancellors score in the lotto

Me too. I was really looking forward to Merritt since they were one of the few if not the only lottery RN program left. I applied to a few CSUs and Chabot which unfortunately didn’t get in to any. I am still waiting to hear back from Ohlone college, CSM, and CCSF.
that’s interesting that Napa V College is June 1-10, however that is still pretty far for me since I live in Fremont...
Personally, I feel like it's the principle of being open and honest with applicants. They didn't update us on anything. Maybe it's not right to compare, but other schools have updated their applicants in some form regarding delays and changes due to the pandemic.
I also applied to CCSF and waiting to hear back from them. Unfortunately, I wasn't accepted into any of the other schools I applied to. So the shortcut Merritt took has affected my chances and I'm sure I am not the only one.

I completely agree with you!! This is unfair that they just skipped one of the phases and just headed straight to running the lottery. Especially with their poor lack of communication. I actually emailed them and explained to them the same situation as you mentioned:
