Creating this to give an insight into the process of applying to Mercy Hospital College of Nursing. I've attended the information session. I took the NLN entrance exam and got a 78% overall score. (73% is passing) I'm waiting to see whats the next step once the administrator sends the needed information. Let's see whats next.

@jnurse98 Congratulations!!! I'm super happy for you. ☺️ You will do well with the NCLEX. Thank you for all your support. You were a life saver for pharm last semester. I started the second semester with psych. Praying that I will say the same thing as you come April. ?

Thank you! Yes it's going to be your turn soon. PSYCH, if you need some help with that class let me know because that class is something else. Good luck. You can do it!!

currently in the lpn program just want to give a heads up that they are discontinuing the LPN to RN program to do HCA purchasing galen nursing . They will be opening one in pembroke and forcing mercy to stop its program ? sucks cause galen will be twice the price and longer. apparently the lpn program will stay...for now

Hey everyone, I’m currently in the LPN-RN program at Mercy going into my 2nd semester in January 2021. So far everything has been online. I attend class Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the moment. The 1st semester consisted of Pharmacology math, pharm for the professional nurse, nursing role and assessment and physiology adaptation. So far everything is going well and passing the courses. Unfortunately I’ve heard that mercy has been bought out by Galen so I don’t believe they will be starting a new class next semester for the LPN-RN program. If anyone on here has any info they can give in regards to mental health, peds and maternity that would be great for those are my classes for next semester. I wish everyone the best on their nursing journey and stay safe Heroes!

Anyone have a study guide for the TEAS entrance test please??

Hi All

I am very interested in the LPN and the LPN-RN program at Mercy Hospital in Miami.  If you are in the program now, or have recently been in the program I would love to hear from you!!!

Thank you!!

Hi All,

I am hoping to do both Programs at Mercy:

LPN year

LPN->RN year

I am wondering if you all are able to work during the programs and able to stay on top of your studies at the same time?  I am thinking that one might need to earn at least $600-Gross/$400-Net per week just to pay rent&food in Miami. So thats a lot of hours ?    How are you all doing it?

I so appreciate any and all of your feedback and suggestions!!

Thank You! ?

Hi Ashley,

Now that you have completed the Mercy LPN-RN...  Are finding great job options?

How do you view the Program now?

Wondering - were you able to work during the LPN-RN program?

Any and all details of the journey will be greatly appreciated!!

@elzabeellie  Hi ! I completed the LPN program last year.  The program is excellent and even though we had our clinical hours cut down a lot due to COVID, many of my classmates got jobs, others decided to go after their RN.

Unfortunately they NO LONGER have the LPN to RN. Mercy was bought by HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) a couple of years ago, and although they initially said they Mercy could keep the program, the school even went so far as to get there ASN and RN to BSN board of nursing approval, at last minute, HCA bought another big school called Galen. And now they will not allow Mercy to keep their LPN to RN program.  Galen is in “miami” but really its in Pembroke Pines. It seems like a good school but double the price of Mercy. It is sad this happened to Mercy. The teachers are excellent, the hospital is great, and I imagine those who completed the program when there wasn’t a pandemic got a ton of hands on experience.  Another great thing was the flexibility I worked the whole time and the program was from 4pm to 10pm Mon-Fri.  They are fully accredited by ACEN, and the Florida Board of Nursing as well.

Regarding rent, Miami is really expensive. I lived here my whole life and I can tell you the area around Mercy is super expensive, however if you move further away like to Kendall you can find more affordability but the trade off is you need a car.  You can get a roommate and then the 600$ a week might be doable.

I would say yes to doing the LPN program there, they are extremely reputable. You will learn a lot without all the other busy work that most school make you have.

That being said, it looks like you have a lot of question, you should call the school.  I recently called just to make sure they were not doing the LPN to RN, and Elizabeth Hernandez (the dean and a wonderful person) said absolutely not.

If you have any other questions Imk.

Good luck!

Hi Sukii!

Thanks for all the great info!  I am so heartened to know what a great program the LPN year actually is.

As you went 4-10 PM did you do the 14 month program? or      were you able to do it in 12 mos?

I only have money for Tuition - 10K, so I definatley need to work. I am hoping to pick up a simple job in the hospital.  Did you do your studying at the hospital or at home?

I definatley will not be able to afford a car-insurance-repairs-gas-inspections-parking.... add up!!

Kendall with a bunch of roommates sounds good, but only if one could take a bus.

Do you know what the LPN graduates are earning? Are they getting good jobs in hospitals?  What are you seeing?

Totally devastating about the LPN-RN...  ?

Hi everyone,

Just catching up on this message board. 123 days away from graduation! So far, I know that Galen College has started their first semester but I'm not sure the cost. As far as working during the program, I did three days 12hour shifts the whole time and it was really brutal. My son is 10 and my boyfriend really has held things together because I have always been buried in a book or with my group studying. If you have good support it can be done because the studying is mor eintense in the middle semester. But don't give up, they need us and we have to get out on the field. Looking into going to FIU next year for the Spring and hopefully it's not too complicated of a transfer process. Let's see how that works. Good luck out there!

@elzabeellie Hi! I went 4pm-10pm for 12 months exactly. Started the program January and finished December .  My program only cost about 8000$ but I live in Miami and my family pays the rent; look into financial aid, this will cover all costs I believe, as some students had financial aid and the you could use the 10K for living costs.  A couple of people dropped off the program, meaning they failed I think it was about 3 or 4. Most of my studying was done at coffee shops. I know some students before covid hit would meet in the student locker area and study, and they also have a tiny library, but after COVID that was all stopped. So I studied at coffee shops and home. I know one graduate is making 25$/hour working with children, I know another that works in Nicklaus Children, I also know some got hired my Mercy themselves and don’t make as much, around 19$. So it varies I would say between 19-25$/hour.

Good luck!
