Nursing Students School Programs

Creating this to give an insight into the process of applying to Mercy Hospital College of Nursing. I've attended the information session. I took the NLN entrance exam and got a 78% overall score. (73% is passing) I'm waiting to see whats the next step once the administrator sends the needed information. Let's see whats next.

Hi Sukii,

Again thank you for the great and complete feedback!  It is so helpful and so heartening to find such thoughtfulness, acuity, and solidarity in another nurse.

As I already have a BS and an MS and impossible loans, I am not eligible for any fed student loans. I guess I could look into super pricey private loans but they will be at high interest and hard to get unless one has a co-signer.

I will be on my own in Miami... coming from out of state ...so no family help.  Good to know the program is 8K. I think that one would need a minimum of 15-1800 per month to live on: rent, phone, highspeed internet, electric, water,  transportation, groceries, insurance, clothing, shoes, cash.....

Did you study all day Sat and Sun?  It seems that would be the only time one could think about working....  but only if one could keep up with school work during the week (Maybe studying daily hours 10-3PM) ... As a science major in the past, I know I studied far more hours than that. What was your study schedule? Did you need to study Saturday and Sunday?

I saw the "library"/study room when I visited for a test.  It is apaulling... not one window and lots of chit-chat...  It was disappointing... are there classrooms that one can use to study?

Are you working as an LPN now?  It sounds like one can make about 40K ... not terrible ...but certainly not great...., no?  How do you see it?

With an RN\BSN I understand that one can make 70-100K.... at least in other states....

What are your longer term hopes/goals in your nursing career....  RN/BSN/NP ??? ?

Again, endless thanks for all your great feedback and suggestions!!

You are a gem ?

Hi,

I am just now reading this! I am so sorry it took me so long.  So my school was purchased by another larger school called Galen Nursing. The school is based in Pembroke Pines. I am not sure the cost and I do know it is a little bit more than what we paid. About half of our instructors will be transitioning over there. It has been super challenging, working full time and with a little guy who just turned 11 but if you put your mind to it, anything can be done. I worked one full time 12 hour job at the hospital and have two other per diem jobs that are about 6-8 hour shifts. It was nearly impossible to get it all done and I had zero social life but I made it. 45 days left!! Two more exams and about 850$ more left to pay off. So almost there. My goal is to finish out this program and begin any required classes for my BSN in January and apply to an online BSN program, probably FIU. Always keep your eye on the prize and write out your goals, it really works! Good luck and if you need anything further, write me back. It won't take that long , LOL sorry about that again.

Have a great afternoon,

Sylvia
