MERCY ABSN 20 NY

Updated:   Published

Hi I'm creating a group for all the people who applying or got accepted to mercy college in ny for Spring 20

Specializes in Dermatology/MOHs Surgery.

Hey,

Does anyone know if we qualify for TAP from NYS since we already have a bachelors degree? I don’t want to fill it out for nothing.

Also, did anyone else that was accepted receive an email to set up their student portal?

Technically no grants ! we all got bachelors and this is going to be the 2nd bachelors. But loans might still be a possibility. isn't the same scenario for FAFSA? No grants just loan for us.

But there is no harm in applying though.

When I was applying to Pace for the ABSN people in the forum said because it’s technically a 5th year program and not a graduate program that we can apply for grants. The one girl said she qualified for an $18,000 grant, wanted to see if anyone here tried yet.

Is it important to submit your high school transcripts ?

I was told you don’t need to submit it unless your accepted. So I didn’t submit mine yet

Anyone got accepted to the Summer program yet?

Yes! Got my acceptance last night

Hello all! I applied to the fall 2020 semester and got accepted this morning!

I'm also living out on LI (Brentwood) and will be commuting (Yikes!) so for @Andray7211 @Emmaleeand @futureLaDnurse I hope to meet you fellow islanders soon!

lmk if any of you guys want to know my stats if it helps! I know the anxiety from waiting is debilitating (lord knows how many times I’ve applied to different schools and was rejected). Saying that I was frustrated Would be an understatement LOL. Just goes to show that you just have to keep persevering no matter what! You all got this!

CONGRATS GIRL! I applied for fall 2020 and am waiting to hear! I cannot wait much longer dear lord. What was your GPA?!

@Rosely S. Sisa congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats?

@Quinnmk @special-k

So I technically started the application in September but wasn’t really invested in this school. It was more of a careless backup plan...until I got rejected to all of my other schools and I had to use this back up plan LOL.
So I finally submitted everything completely on 2/13/20. That’s when they started reviewing my application. I talked to ———— and he told me that they were reviewing my App and that I’ll probably hear by 3/31/2020. Turns out, they accepted me earlier than expected! It literally only took them 2 and a half weeks.

Undergrad GPA: 3.35

I took Micro, and A&P 1 and 2 all of 2019 at a community college for the Pre-reqs since I didn’t do them in undergrad. That GPA was 3.7

Personal statement: I made it super personal (something that I never really do in Apps) and talked about my medical condition. I never do that bc I hate sob stories and I feel like everyone does that. I’m not the type to use my circumstances as sob stories. I’m a fighter. So I used that and basically made it my “strength”. Also, found a way to tie that into Preventative medicine, how Nursing is the best field to promote this type of medicine, and how I can help contribute to this movement towards preventative medicine. It was exactly 499 words (Def think that essay was the winner towards my acceptance)

Also, I did not use letters of recommendations.

and Since this is a recent topic, I was under the impression that high school transcripts were necessary for the application. The way I was told was that the unofficial one goes on the application and upon acceptance you send the Official copy. (Same goes for Bachelor’s transcript). That’s really the same across the board for any school you apply to. Just my 2 cents. I wouldn’t risk it. Just complete and send everything.

Also. I’ve been a Medical assistant for 2 years. I have my phlebotomy license and have been doing that for a year. I also submitted my Full resume onto the application. Wasn’t necessary I think But I put it in anyway.

How soon after applying did you reach out to ------------------ to find out when you’d get a decision? I don’t want to come off as pushy LOL

@FiddleStackssNYC Literally the same day I finished my app, I emailed him.

I have to make a correction. I submitted my last document on 2/19/20 not on the 13th. So my application was complete on the 19th. I added my personal statement last since that took me the longest.

So on the 19th I emailed him basically saying "Hey I finally submitted everything. What would be the next step? What should I look out for?"

and he responded with this "Your application is with our nursing department for final review and decision. Should you be selected you will hear from us by March 31, 2020."

That's it. Straight answer. Never contacted him again. Just kept my mind off of it and hoped time would fly by because at that time, I had to wait a whole Month and a half! I didn't want to get anxious. But I guess the universe was on my side bc I didn't have to wait that long!
