Meeting AHPRA requirements as a International Trained Nurse from the Philippines

Published

Some of the BP schools have not renewed their registration. I bought skype unlimited to call Australia for 500php/month (approximate) so I have confirmed it with these schools:

St Vincent’s & Mercy Private Hospital- 03 9411 7331

Hollywood Private Hospital, Nedlands- 08 9346 6485

(Of course, I might be wrong so you can double check it.)

I want to clarify that for Hollywood they are offering the BP course for locals but not overseas trained nurses. It's better if you speak with them directly. Buy Skype Aus Unlimited call- it's cheaper than landline or even mobile loads.

I am planning to enroll in UniSA or Deakin. (November or October intake is good for me) However, I think I might have some difficulties later.....

Back 2010 when cioman originally posted a thread about new Filipino graduates, I got interested and researched what school offers the cheapest BP and I stumbled upon Hollywood Hospital from which they informed me it was 4000 aud. However, at that time I was pregnant so I didn't apply.

So fast forward, here I am awaiting for AHPRA assessment which was submitted last May. Another thing is that I am bound for Libya next month for nursing job- for a year. So it's quite critical for me that AHPRA delays their assessment, quite the opposite of many nurses on this forum.

Another mistake on my part is that I have not foreseen that timing is of the essence during application. IELTS expires within 2 years, AHPRA letter of offer expires within 1 year (might be considered for extension up to 6 months but that is not a guarantee.) Visa application must be 4 months prior to commencing of the course and lastly BP courses have different intakes. Some of the BP schools have not renewed their registration. When the right time comes, I might need to travel just to get my medicals. It says on the website Tripoli hospitals only and I will be assigned in Benghazi. Is this okay, can I apply student visa while I am overseas? I am not sure if I did the right thing to pursue application or is it better to withdraw?

For sure I will have to take IELTS so I can register. My IELTS will expire April 2013.

I'd just like to mention that good thing allnurses has an android app which helps you track your favorite threads. It stays on whatever page you have not read and not back to page 1. Off topic- sorry, just cant help it.

Thank you. I've checked everything and I know that I've sent every document they need. I just hope that on sept 14, they will offer me a BP. Will just write a letter of appeal. fingers crossed. just wondering, am I the only soul here with this case?

Are you sure that you submitted the correct form to AHPRA?

Whether you are required to do a bp course or not, for an Australian nurse you must complete 20 hours pd a year (this would be one reason they would have asked about NCLEX as study for this would be considered some pd.

I thought AHPRA. Were assessing positively every nurse that appled from overseas, as long as you had 2 arms and 2 legs and called yourself an RN.

They must have decided to implement the PD at long last, as many nurses were coming here with no clinical skills since graduation that may a have been 4 to 5 years ago with no updates.

You cannot be considered a grad nurse because you graduated 7 years ago, you therefore must show some professional development since then, make a professional portfolio with dates and hours of pd and training you have attended this is what they require.
